#7 Black Hills State women's basketball has earned its place in the RMAC Tournament finals against #1 Colorado School of Mines which will be played Saturday March 6 at 7:00 p.m.
The Yellow Jackets are coming off another decisive win and the team's second upset of the RMAC Tourney after knocking off #3 Western Colorado 67-62 Friday night. The Yellow Jackets shot the best they have this season shooting 47.7% from the floor while sinking 11 3-pointers at an impressive 47.8% on the night. BHSU was led by seniors
Racquel Wientjes and
Morgan Ham with 28 and 21 points apiece, respectively.
Colorado School of Mines faced off against #4 Colorado Mesa to earn their spot in the RMAC finals grinding it out in an intense defensive face off between the #1 and #2 ranked defenses in the RMAC. Ultimately though Mesa would keep the game close the Orediggers would come out victorious 60-57.
The last time the Yellow Jackets and Orediggers faced off was earlier this season in a contest that went into overtime in Spearfish, S.D. Ultimately the Yellow Jackets would prove to be victorious with three double digit scorers on the night in
Morgan Ham,
Megan Engesser, and
Racquel Wientjes. The contest had special meaning for senior forward Ham who recorded her 1,000
th career point in the final minutes of the fourth quarter sending the game into overtime play.
If the Yellow Jackets were to win this contest it will be their first RMAC Tournament victory since joining the RMAC. The Yellow Jackets would then get a bid to the NCAA Tournament. If the team were to fall to Colorado Mines they will wait to see if they win a bid to the NCAA Tournament.
