Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women Defeat Rival Hardrockers, 69-55

The Black Hills State women's basketball team defeated the South Dakota School of Mines Hardrockers Thursday night in the Donald E. Young Center 69-55 keeping the teams home court winning streak alive.
 
Ashley Davis had a breakout night against the Hardrockers scoring a career-high 21 points besting her previous career high of 13 which she set against Colorado School of Mines last season.
 
Haylee Weathersby and Danica Kocer each scored in double digits as well with Weathersby scoring 11 and Kocer scoring 10.
 
BHSU was stout on defense forcing 19 turnovers, snagging 13 steals, and earning 14 points off turnovers.
 
The Yellow Jackets took the lead early and held on for the duration of the game taking a quick 15 point lead to open the contest. The Hardrockers gained their first points of the night off a layup at the 3:30 mark in the first quarter. The Yellow Jackets stayed hot putting up 6 more points before time expired and took a 21-5 lead out of the first quarter.
 
BHSU stayed hot in the second quarter while the Hardrockers offense started to heat up. The Yellow Jackets opened the second quarter putting up six more points before the Hardrockers could add to their total. From that point the Yellow Jackets went on to outscore the Hardrockers 14-10 setting up a halftime score of 41-15 in favor of BHSU.
 
The Yellow Jackets offense was slow out of the gates out of the break while South Dakota Mines came out hot going on a 13-2 run to open the third quarter. The Hardrockers outscored the Yellow Jackets 21-9 in the third quarter to bring the Yellow Jacket lead to 14 going into the final ten minutes of play.
 
BHSU and SDM would play an evenly matched fourth quarter with both teams scoring 19 points to set up the final game score of 69-55.
 
BHSU shot 50.0% from the field making 28 of 56 of their attempts. From downtown the Yellow Jackets made 8 of 20 three-point attempts for a 40% average. From the charity stripe BHSU made 5 of 11 free throws for a 33.3% shooting average.
 
Up Next
The Yellow Jackets are set to take on Colorado Mesa Monday afternoon in a rescheduled contest from January 8. The game is set to tip off at 4:00 p.m. in the Donald E. Young Center and general admission is free to the public.
