Black Hills State track and field hosted the 29th annual Dave Little Alumni Mile Friday, January 21 and Saturday, January 22 in the Donald E Young Center Field House.
The day was highlighted by numerous personal bests across the team, two new provisional marks one by
Hannah Hendrick in the pole vault and one by
Keith Osowski in the men's mile, and a great showing for the Alumni Mile after having to cancel last year due to COVID 19 concerns.
Alum Alex Baldwin bested senior
Keith Osowski in the men's mile with a time of 4:16.48 while Osowski came in a close second with a time of 4:17.07.
Distance
Xiomara Robinson and
Ruby Lindquist set the tone for the meet early battling for first place in the women's mile. Ultimately, it was Robinson who grabbed an edge and won with a time of 5:10.44 while Lindquist was right behind finishing in 5:10.57. Robinson also earned a second-place finish in the women's 3000m run finishing in 10:33.73.
Erica Dykstra finished third in the mile with a time of 5:31.52. On the men's side Osowksi battled for first with Alum Alex Baldwin, who was running as an individual. Baldwin pulled away on the last lap finishing less than a second ahead of Osowski, however; Osowski's mile time earned him a provisionally qualifying mark in the men's mile. In the men's 3000m run the Yellow Jackets had four of the top five finishers with
Hayden Grosz placing first with a time of 9:02.69.
Keith Osowski placing second in 9:14.14,
Matthew Parker placing fourth in 9:21.96, and
Marcos Valerio placing fifth in 9:22.23.
Sprints/Hurdles
Taylor Lundquist came in first for the women in the women's 400m dash with a time of 1:03.38 while freshman
Jillian Brennan came in third with a time of 1:05.32.
Frank Becker was the top finisher on the men's side in the 400m dash placing second with a time of 53.79 while
Nicholas Hale earned a fourth-place finish with a time of 54.69. In the 60m hurdles
Sophie Curtis placed fourth for the Yellow Jackets with a time of 9.93. In the women's 200m dash
Mikayla Tracy came in fourth with a time of 27.90. On the men's side in the 60m hurdles it was
Conor McGraw who came across the finish line first with a time of 8.63 improving his PR set last week at the Myrle Hanson Open.
Mario Guerrero placed fourth in the 60m hurdles with a time of 9.20.
Breanne Fuller stayed hot on the track placing second in the women's 60m dash with a time of 8.01 and first in the women's 200 with a time of 26.43. For the men
Mason Sartain earned a fourth-place finish in the 60m dash with a time of 7.20.
Jumps/Vaults
Mario Guerrero was the lone jumper for the Yellow Jacket men placing second in the men's triple jump with a mark of 13.03m (42' 9").
Kendra McDonald held things down for the women with a second-place finish in the high jump with a jump of 1.54m (5' 0.5"). In the women's pole vault
Hannah Hendrick placed first and provisionally qualified in the pole vault after vaulting 3.76m (12' 4") while
Whitney Scott placed third with a vault of 3.36m (11' 0.25"). On the men's side
Ben Marowf placed third with a vault of 4.12m (13" 6.25").
Throws
Kyla Sawvell improved her standing in the women's weight throw after earning a personal best mark of 19.12m (62' 8.75"). This distance moves her from 11th place to 6th place in the national standings. Freshman
Savannah Perez placed third after earning a mark of 15.60m (51' 2.25"). On the men's side
Sully Mack was the top Yellow Jacket finisher with a mark of 15.85m (52' 0"). This mark earned Mack a third-place finish in the weight throw. In the women's shot-put Kyla again earned a first-place finish after a mark of 14.34m (47' 00.75").
Jadyn Gackle earned her person best mark of 12.36m (40' 6.75") which was earned her a second-place finish.
Sully Mack also earned a third-place finish in the shot-put with a mark of 13.53m (44' 4.75").
Relays
The women's 4x400m relay smoked the competition coming in first against five other teams with a time of 4:11.67. The race was run by
Erica Dykstra,
Taylor Lundquist,
Mikayla Tracy, and
Sophie Curtis. The men's 4x400m relay team earned a third-place finish with a time of 3:34.58. The men on this team were
Shane McGraw,
Conor McGraw,
Landon Nicholson, and
Frank Becker.
Up Next
The Yellow Jackets will be sending much of the team to Chadron State next weekend to compete while a select few athletes will be heading to MSU Mankato to compete.
