Yellow Jackets Head to Adams State for Final Road Game

Black Hills State football plays on the road at Adams State on Saturday, Nov. 5 at 1 p.m. as the team is coming of a historic 75-0 win over Fort Lewis last weekend.

BHSU is currently 6-3 on the season after going 5-0 to open the year and currently hold the second-best defense in the RMAC, allowing only 20.6 points per game.

Currently in fifth place in the RMAC, the Yellow Jackets also hold the fifth-best offense in the league averaging 30.2 points per game while having scored 36 touchdowns and kicking eight field goals.

Adams State
The Grizzlies have struggled this season and are in eighth place in the standings with an RMAC record of 2-5, and 2-7 overall.

ASU ranks second to last in the conference in defense, allowing 36.3 points per game, and are also seventh in offense as they average 26.0 points per game. The Grizzlies have found more success passing this year than in the running game, averaging 246.6 passing yards per game compared to their 98.2 rushing yard average.

Series History
Black Hills State is 3-7 all-time against Adams State dating back to 2011. The Yellow Jackets are winners of three of their last five meetings, including last season's 51-48 barnburner in Spearfish on Homecoming.

League Leaders
Nolan Susel ranks second in the RMAC with 12 total touchdowns, and second in total rushing touchdowns (11). He also sits third in total rushing yards (572), second in rushing attempts (129), and fourth in rushing yards per game (63.6).

Receiving, Hasaan Williams ranks third in the RMAC in receptions per game with (6.3) and total receptions (57), while ranking seventh in receiving yards (576) and seventh in receiving yards per game (64.0). Williams is tied for fifth in receiving touchdowns with six.

Redshirt freshman receiver TJ Chukwurah is currently leading the RMAC with an average of 22.8 yards per catch.

Special teams has also been a bright spot this season, as redshirt freshman kicker Coleman Chapman is sixth in the RMAC with eight field goals this season, and ranks tied for 9th in the RMAC in all offensive scoring with 56 points scored this season.

Defensively, the Yellow Jackets have three of the top-10 in the RMAC among passes defended, and five in the top 15. Lovenski Simon is second in the RMAC with 10 breakups this season, while Deunte Moody is third with nine and Doodles Quinones is tied for ninth with six.

Klaus Souffrant is also in the mix with five breakups on defense. Souffrant's three interceptions this season also ranks tied for third in the RMAC.

Ryder Blair and Aaron Thiele rank both rank top-five in the league in tackles. Blair is tied for second with 71 tackles this season, while Thiele is fifth with 66.

True freshman Keenan Eck has also been outstanding this season and is currently second in the RMAC with 6.5 sacks, he also leads the league with three forced fumbles as he is making a strong case for RMAC Freshman of the Year.

Linebacker Ryder Blair was named Defensive Player of the Week and kicker Coleman Chapman earned Special Teams Defensive Player of the Week honors.

Week 3, 9/19
Sophomore linebacker Aaron Thiele was named RMAC Defensive Player of the Week.

Week 4, 9/26
Redshirt freshman kicker Coleman Chapman was named RMAC Special Teams Player of the Week for his second time this season.

Week 9, 10/31
Redshirt freshman kicker Coleman Chapman was named RMAC Special Teams Player of the Week for his third time this season.

National Rankings
Black Hills State football received votes on the Week 6 AFCA Division II Coaches' Top 25 Poll on Oct. 10 for just the second time in program history, and the first time since Oct 10, 2016 - exactly 6 years prior to the day - which also happened to be during a week leading up to a matchup with Western Colorado.
