BROOKINGS, S.D. | TOPEKA, Kan. - Black Hills State track and field had an action-packed weekend with athletes competing in meets in Brookings, S.D. at SDSU and in Topeka, Kan. at Washburn University.
Ruby Lindquist started the weekend off right for the Yellow Jackets running in the women's mile on Thursday completing the race in 4:52.60 breaking the BHSU school record set in 2011 by Erin Curran of 4:55.38.
Lindquist jumped right back into action on Saturday at the Jason's Deli Icabod Invitation breaking her second school record of the weekend this time in the women's 3000m run. Lindquist broke the previous record of 9:53.01 set by
Xiomara Robinson last season with a time of 9:52.12.
Xiomara Robinson followed Lindquist's record-breaking performance on Saturday with one of her own as she shattered the school record in the women's 5000m run. The previous record of 17:39.61 was held by Leigh Anne Whiteside and was set in 2012.
Thursday – Icabod Mid-Week Challenge
The Yellow Jackets had two athletes compete on Thursday at the Icabod Mid-Week Challenge with
Ruby Lindquist and
Keith Osowski each competing in the mile. Lindquist placed fifth with a time of 4:52.38 besting her previous provisionally qualifying time and earning herself a new school record.
Keith Osowski also bested his provisional mark with a time of 4:10.75 which earned him a first-place finish for BHSU.
Friday/Saturday – SDSU Classic
The Yellow Jackets had three student-athletes move up on the top ten lists this weekend at SDSU with
Hannah Hendrick leading the way. Hendrick earned a career best vault of 3:90m (12'09.5") in the pole vault this weekend besting her provisional mark from earlier this season and moving into second place on the top ten list tied with
Whitney Scott. This mark also earned Hendrick a first-place overall finish in the women's pole vault.
Erica Dykstra moved into eighth place on the top ten list in the women's 800m run with a time of 2:18.29. This time earned her a 15th place finish overall.
Conor McGraw also made his way onto the top ten list this weekend in the 200m dash with a time of 22.78. This time moved McGraw into the eighth-place spot on the top ten list and a 27th place finish overall.
The Yellow Jackets had six other student-athletes place in the top ten of their events at SDSU this weekend with
Kyla Sawvell leading the way recording a pair of second place finishes. Sawvell earned second in the shot put with a mark of 14.60m (47'11") and in the weight throw with a mark of 18.52m (60' 9.25").
Whitney Scott took third in the pole vault with a vault of 3.60m (11' 9.75") while
Breanne Fuller took seventh in the 200m dash. Breanne completed her race in 25.63 seconds.
Savannah Perez finished eighth in the women's weight throw with a mark of 16.28m (53'5") while the women's 4x400 meter relay also took eighth after finishing the race in 4:07.01. The women's 4x400 was ran by
Erica Dykstra,
Breanne Fuller,
Sophie Curtis, and
Mikayla Tracy.
Saturday – Jason's Deli Icabod Invitational
Keith Osowski and
Ruby Lindquist were back in action in Kansas on Saturday and were in top form again on the track as Osowski bested his mile time from Thursday running a 4:09.20 mile and Lindquist competing in the 3000m run running a personal best of 9:52.12. This time was good enough to earn Lindquist a third-place finish and break her second school record of the weekend. Joining Osowski and Lindquist in action on Saturday was
Xiomara Robinson who competed in the 5000m run. Robinson shattered the previous school record of 17:39.61 with a time of 17:32.51 on Saturday. This time also earned Robinson a seventh-place overall finish.
