Sandy Moran Joins Track and Field as Assistant Coach for Throws

Black Hills State track and field is pleased to announce the addition of Sandy Moran to the coaching staff as the throws coach.

Moran joins the Yellow Jacket track and field coaching staff from Highland Community College where she was the head track and field and cross-country coach from 2020-22.

Most recently, Moran coached two NJCAA Champions in Alan De Falchi in the men's discus throw, and Deisiane Teixeira in the women's javelin. De Falchi holds the NJCAA Championship record in the men's discus with a mark of 61.93m and Teixeira holds overall NJCAA women's javelin record with a throw of 50.17m.

In her time with Highland CC, Moran coached two NJCAA Outdoor National Champions, eight Outdoor NJCAA All-Americans, five Indoor NJCAA All-Americans, and seven All-Academic Athletes.

Prior to her time at Highland CC, Moran was the assistant track and field and cross country coach at Cloud Community College for the 2019-20 season where she coached eight athletes to the NCJAA Indoor Championship and four athletes to the NJCAA Outdoor Championship. Moran helped coach the men's Outdoor NJCAA National Championship team in 2019.

Before that, Moran was the assistant track and field coach at Lewis University from 2017-19. Throughout her time at Lewis, Moran coached two Second Team All-Americans, five All-Conference performers, and a National Qualifier.

Moran held the head coaching role for both track and field and cross country from 2004-10 at Humboldt State University. In her time with Humboldt, Moran coached three DII NCAA Qualifiers, 10 CCAA All Conference performances, and six NCAA Western All-Region performances in cross country. As track and field coach Moran coached 15 NCAA Outdoor DII qualifiers, 10 All-American performances, three GNAC Champions, and 14 CAA Conference Champions.

From 2002-04 Moran worked as the assistant track and field coach for Portland State University. Moran spent the 2001-02 season assistant coaching for Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville for both the track and field and cross country teams.

Sandy started her career in August of 1999 as a graduate assistant cross country and track and field coach at Campbell University where she worked until 2000.

Most recently, Moran graduated from Campbell University with a Master's in Education in Interdisciplinary Studies with an Emphasis in Exercise Science in 2001.

Moran holds a B.S. in History and Political Science from the University of Wisconsin - Madison. Moran earned the University of Wisconsin Undergraduate Excellence Award in 1996 and was president of the Student Athletic Advisory Committee from 1995-96. Moran was also a Big Ten Student Athletic Advisory Representative from 1995-96.
