Black Hills State women's basketball is headed to Rapid City to face the rival Hardrockers Saturday night prior to facing off against Western Colorado Monday afternoon for the team's last road game of the regular season.
The Yellow Jackets (16-8, 14-4 RMAC) tip off at 5:30 p.m. Saturday night against the Hardrockers and 2:00 p.m. Monday afternoon against the Mountaineers.
BHSU is riding a three-game road winning streak in which they have defeated UCCS 55-52, NMHU 74-55, and most recently Chadron State 58-46.
Currently the Yellow Jackets are looking to secure a top spot in the RMAC with hopes to host in RMAC tournament play.
Black Hills State vs South Dakota Mines
The Hardrockers are 4-20 overall and 4-14 in RMAC play so far this season and are on a one game winning streak after defeating Colorado Christian University 69-54 on their home court. Prior to that victory the Hardrockers had lost three straight games against Westminster, Colorado Mesa, and MSU Denver.
Earlier this season the Yellow Jackets defeated South Dakota Mines 69-55 in the Donald E Young Center in front of the largest home crowd of the season. Senior
Ashley Davis scored a career-high 21 points in that contest while
Haylee Weathersby and
Danica Kocer also scored in double figures. As a team the Yellow Jacket defense was dominant on the court forcing 19 turnovers, grabbing 13 steals, and tallying 14 points off turnovers.
The Yellow Jackets have played the Hardrockers 38 times in program history with the Yellow Jackets having won 25 of those matchups. BHSU has had a harder time beating South Dakota Mines on their home court having won 11 of 18 road games compared to 14 of 20 home games. Last season the Hardrockers were able to defeat the Yellow Jackets both times they faced off; however, this year the Yellow Jackets have the lone contest the two teams have played thus far.
Black Hills State vs Western Colorado
The Mountaineers are 10-12 overall and 8-9 in RMAC play so far this season. Western Colorado is currently on a two-game losing streak having lost to Regis 67-66 Friday, February 11 and #17 Colorado School of Mines 65-50 on Saturday, February 12. Prior to the Mountaineers 2:00 p.m. tip-off on Monday against the Yellow Jackets they will play CSU Pueblo and Adams State February 18 and 19.
The Yellow Jackets opened RMAC play against the Mountaineers December 3. BHSU came out on top in that contest winning 45-43 on their home court in the Donald E Young Center.
Morgan Hammerbeck led the Yellow Jackets in scoring with a then career-high 12 points while
Haylee Weathersby snagged a team leading 10 boards.
The Yellow Jackets have played the Mountaineers 15 times in program history with the Yellow Jackets holding the edge in wins with 11 compared to the Mountaineers four wins. BHSU holds a 5-2 record on the road against Western College and currently holds a two-game winning streak over the Mountaineers which includes an RMAC Tournament semifinals win last season.
