ALAMOSA, Colo. – Black Hills State softball dropped its Saturday doubleheader against Adams State.
The Yellow Jackets (3-7, 3-7 RMAC) fell in game one, 8-3 and then 8-6 in game two. Between the two games, the team totaled 20 hits, including four for extra bases and a home run.
Lizzy Johnson went 5-8 with an RBI triple, a double and two runs scored.
Crystal Amaral went 3-4 with a 3-run home run, and two runs scored, while
Bayleigh Hubbard finished 2-4 with an RBI in game two.
Shayla Tuschen went 1-2 with an RBI and a walk in game one.
Fallyn Marshall finished 4-8 with a run scored.
Tyler Whitlock had a base hit, walked and scored a run.
Game One (L, 8-3)
After keeping the Adams State bats quiet in the first, the Grizzlies knocked in two in the second and four in the third to move ahead 6-0.
Then, down 7-0 in the sixth, the Yellow Jackets were able to push a pair across using singles from Marshall and Tuschen, while taking advantage of some ASU mistakes to make it a 7-2 game.
A Johnson two-out triple in the bottom of the seventh brought in Whitlock, but that would be all BHSU could get across in game one, eventually falling 8-3.
Game Two (L, 8-6)
After ASU's first two batters of the game reached base, Tuschen sent the next three down in order, keeping the game scoreless.
The Grizzlies put up six runs over the next three innings, but the Yellow Jackets would get one back in the bottom of the fourth on a Hubbard RBI single.
Then in the fifth, a Johnson double and a
Bell Luebken single put two on for Amaral, who followed with a 3-run home run, making it a 6-4 game.
After ASU tacked on two more in the seventh, BHSU mounted a rally and scored two more themselves with a
Gianna Haley 2-run single, but eventually fell 8-6.
