Kyla Sawvell is RMAC Hammer Throw Champion

PUEBLO, Colo. - Day one of the Outdoor Track and Field Championships was filled with successes for the Black Hills State track and field teams.
 
The Yellow Jackets had three student athletes qualify for championship Sunday as Keith Osowski qualified in the men's 1500m run placing second with a time of 4:07.29, Breanne Fuller qualified in the women's 100m dash finishing fourth with a time of 11:76, and Sophie Curtis qualified in the 400 hurdles placing eighth with a time of 1:07.03.
 
Conor McGraw started the day competing in the decathlon and sits in third with 3337 points with five events complete.
 
Kendra McDonald began her day in the heptathlon and currently sits in seventh with 2261 points with four events complete.
 
The throwers had a standout day with five of six throwers who competed recording personal bests on the day. The men took the ring first for the hammer throw as Gevin Paas would finish the day in fifth with a personal best mark of 53.72m (176' 2"). With his fifth-place finish Paas also earned Second Team All-Conference in the hammer throw. Sully Mack brought home an eighth-place finish with a personal best mark of 51.68m (169' 6").
 
Kyla Sawvell was the top finisher for the ladies in the hammer throw breaking the 60-meter mark with a throw of 60.18m (197' 5"). This was not only a personal best for Sawvell but also earned her a first-place finish and First Team All-Conference. Savannah Perez earned a seventh-place finish for the Yellow Jackets with a personal best mark of 49.40m (162' 0") and Jadyn Gackle earned a personal best mark of 43.33m (142' 1") placing 15th.
 
The women's pole vault was originally set to take place today and has been postponed to Sunday at 9:30 a.m.
