Despite blustery conditions at the Bauer Invitational the Black Hills State track and field teams had a successful outing in Rapid City.

As a team the Yellow Jackets brought home eight individual champions and three provisional marks at the Bauer Invitational Friday and Saturday.

Hannah Hendrick earned a provisionally qualifying mark for the NCAA DII Outdoor Track and Field Championships with a 3.75m (12' 03.75") pole vault. This jump also earned Hendrick first place in the women's pole vault competition.

Kyla Sawvell improved her previously set provisional marks in both the hammer throw and the shot put and is currently ranked #10 in the nation in both events. Sawvell took first in the hammer throw with a mark of 56.67m (185' 11.25") and first in the shot put with a mark of 14.44m (47' 04.5").

Throws
Sawvell also earned a first-place finish in the discus with a mark of 41.95m (137' 07.75") and fifth in the javelin with a personal best throw of 31.96m (104' 10.25").
Gevin Paas took first for the men in discus with a mark of 49.61m (162' 09.25"). This earned Paas second all-time on the Yellow Jacket top ten list just 1.25 cm shy of the school record of 162' 11.00". Paas also recorded a third-place finish in the hammer throw with a mark of 52.35m (171' 09").
Alexandra Cameron took second place in the shot put after recording a personal best mark of 12.61m (41' 04.5"). For the men
Sully Mack took second in the javelin with a mark of 51.85m (170' 01.5"). Mack also took fourth in the hammer throw with a mark of 51.19m (167' 11.5") and fifth in the discus with a mark of 43.41m (142" 05.25").
Savannah Perez earned fourth in the hammer throw with a mark of 48.20 (158' 01.75").
Jadyn Gackle took fourth in the shot put with a mark of 12.22m (40'01.25") and fifth in discus with a mark of 35.05m (115' 00").
Kitrie Frank took fourth in the javelin with a mark of 34.56m (113' 04.75").
Reece Ullery wrapped things up for the throwers with a fifth-place finish in the javelin with a mark of 44.79m (146' 11.5").

Jumps/Vaults
Whitney Scott took second in the pole vault with a vault of 3.60m (11' 09.75") finishing behind teammate
Hannah Hendrick.
Kendra McDonald placed third in the high jump with a jump of 1.55m (4' 11.25").
Reece Ullery took third in the long jump with a jump of 6.37m (20' 10.75") and
Mario Guerrero took fourth place in the triple jump with a jump of 12.96m (42' 06.25").
Conor McGraw placed fourth in the long jump of 5.86m (19' 02.75").

Distance
A trio of Yellow Jackets led the distance runners with three second place finishers.
Marcos Valerio took second in the 1500m run completing the race in 4:12.28.
Erica Dykstra placed second in the 800m run finishing the race in 2:26.17.
Landon Nicholson was the final second place finisher taking second in the men's 800m run with a time of 2:08.52.
Hayden Grosz finished third in the 1500m run with a time of 4:12.31.
Jillian Brennan placed fourth for the Yellow Jackets in the 800m run finishing in 2:31.79. Valerio also competed in the 5000m run and placed fifth with a time of 16:10.10.

Sprints/Hurdles
Breanne Fuller brought home a pair of first place finishes for the Yellow Jackets on the track completing the 100m dash in 12.12 and taking first while also taking first in the 200m dash with a time of 27.05.
Sophie Curtis brought home a first-place finish in the 400 hurdles with a time of 1:11.98 and a second-place finish in the 100 hurdles with a time of 15.72.
Mikayla Tracy brought home a second-place finish in the 400m dash with a time of 1:01.83.
Conor McGraw placed fourth in the 110 hurdles with a time of 15.41. Coleman Chapman brought home a fifth place finish for BHSU in the 110 hurdles with a time of 16.25 and
Frank Becker took fifth in the 400m dash finishing the race in 51.80.

Up Next
The Yellow Jackets will be splitting up in the coming week as they will send athletes to the Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, California April 14-16, the Long Beach Invitational in Long Beach, California April 14-16, the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa, California April 15, and the Blue Hawk Open in Dickinson, N.D. on April 16.
