Black Hills State football heads north to Dickinson State where the team will face off against it's former NAIA rival on Thursday, Sept. 1 at 6 p.m.
This game is the second of a two-year series that included last year's matchup in Spearfish.
The Yellow Jackets finished last year at 4-7 overall and 2-7 in the RMAC. After a hot start to go 4-1 to begin the year, tough conference opponents down the stretch caused issues for the young team.
As a team, BHSU averaged 23.3 points per game while allowing 32.7. On offense they averaged 179.2 rushing yards and 187.9 passing yards per game, while totaling 33 touchdowns on the season, including 21 in the air and 12 on the ground.
The Yellow Jackets enter this season with 54 returners which includes 14 returning starters.
Dickinson State (0-0)
The Blue Hawks finished last season with an overall record of 8-3, with one of their three losses coming at the hands of the Yellow Jackets in the 30-24 BHSU victory on Sept. 2, 2021.
DSU advanced to the opening round of the NAIA Tournament last year, falling to No. 3 Grand View University, 38-13.
Series History
This will be the 62nd meeting between Black Hills State and Dickinson State, having faced off on the gridiron 61 times prior. In those 61 games, the Yellow Jackets hold a 27-32-2 record.
Playing at the NAIA level before transitioning to Division II in 2012, BHSU was a member of the DAC where they were a frequent opponent of Dickinson State. Since entering the RMAC, the two teams have played only twice (2016, 2021).
