Black Hills State football ran past William Jewell, 38-19 at Lyle Hare Stadium Saturday Afternoon.
The Yellow Jackets (2-0) had a strong game on both sides of the ball and rattled of two touchdown runs of over 75 yards in the fourth quarter.
On offense, quarterback
Aidan Willard completed 20 of 29 passing attempts for 217 yards and a touchdown.
Nolan Susel rushed 12 times for three touchdowns and 84 yards.
Cameron Goods totaled 97 yards on the ground and scored a touchdown.
Hasaan Williams hauled in 12 catches for 132 yards, including a 39-yard touchdown reception.
On defense,
Aaron Thiele totaled seven tackles to lead the team, while
Ryder Blair made six tackles and hauled in an interception.
Klaus Souffrant also made an interception in the game.
Lovenski Simon broke up three passes to go along with a tackle, and
Deunte Moody made 5 tackles and broke up two passes.
Cooper Brown and
Jayden Marquez each combined for a sack.
The Yellow Jackets scored on their opening drive of the game, using only seven plays to march down the field before finding the endzone on a 39-yard pass from Willard to Williams to take an early 7-0 lead.
A couple drives later, BHSU extended their lead to 14-0 after big gains from Susel and
Harold Dobbin got the team down to the 1-yard line and Susel punched it in for the score.
WJC would get on the board early in the second quarter with a field goal to cut the Yellow Jacket lead to 14-3, but a
Coleman Chapman 37-yard field goal got those points back to make it 17-3 with 7:05 remaining in the first half.
With 4:09 left to go in the second quarter,
Doodles Quinones jumped on top of a WJC muffed punt to put BHSU on the Cardinal's 2-yard line. After that, Susel would find the end zone on his second try as BHSU moved to 24-3.
The Cardinals added another field goal just before the half and the Yellow Jackets held a 24-6 lead at the break.
WJC found the endzone in the third quarter, but a failed 2-point conversion made it a 24-12 game, a score that held into the fourth quarter.
With 13:15 left in the game, Susel took a handoff from Willard 77 yards into the endzone to stretch the lead to 31-12.
Then on the team's next drive,
Cameron Goods topped Susel's carry with an 89-yard touchdown run to put BHSU up 38-12 with 9:05 left in the game.
The Cardinals would score once more before time expired, but BHSU would go on to win by a score of 38-19.
