Matt Cahoon Named Assistant Track & Field Coach

Black Hills State track and field has announced the hiring of Matt Cahoon as Assistant Track & Field Coach.

"We're very excited to have Coach Cahoon join the Track and Field staff," said Director of Track & Field and Cross Country Brian Medigovich. "He came highly recommended from many coaches. He has done an awesome job in just the first week of practice so far and I can't wait to see what he does with the throws squad this season."

Prior to BHSU, Cahoon competed at Samford University in Birmingham, Ala. Where he competed in all track and field throwing events within the Southern Conference.

"Padraic and Coach Med have given me a great opportunity to work with young people under an athletic department that I feel operates with excitement and intelligence," said Cahoon. "I am enthusiastic as we begin our very early preparations for the spring season, and I cannot wait to see what our athletes are capable of by next spring."

In his time at Samford, he was a 6-time Southern Conference Men's Most Outstanding Athlete, and 6-time Southern Conference Champion while training under Rod Tiffin, David Clyburn and Tom Pukstys.

He was also a 2-time Eastern Regional Qualifier in the javelin throw.

Cahoon received a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and Mass Communication from Samford University in May 2022 and currently resides in Spearfish, S.D.
