Black Hills University's track and field teams hosted their third indoor meet of the season this past weekend with the David Little Alumni Mile Open, with the women's squad finding a second-place finish while the men placed third.
Out of the 16 events scored on the men's side of the meet, BHSU found six first-place finishes, with the men completing the event to place third with 138 points. South Dakota Mines completed the event with 175 points to place first, Dickinson State finished second with 139 points, and Dawson Community College finished in fourth with 41.
In the women's bracket, 14 events were scored and found the BHSU ladies in second with 122 points while Dickinson State placed first with 210, South Dakota Mines placed third with 82, and Dawson Community College fell into fourth with 17. The BHSU women's squad held four first-place athletes over the weekend.
MEN
Sprints/Hurdles
Mason Sartain and
Nicholas Hale represented BHSU in the 60m dash finals after qualifying in second and sixth in the preliminaries. Sartain (7.20) finished in fourth place while Hale (7.43) placed eighth. In the 200m dash, Sartain (23.39) ran for BHSU and found a first-place finish in the event.
Shane McGraw (51.56) held a solid performance in the 400m dash as he found a first-place finish that was only one second off his personal best.
Frank Becker (54.00) was the other Yellow Jacket to represent BHSU in the event, placing sixth in the 400m.
In the men's 60m hurdles,
Dawson Lindeen (9.88) placed third for BHSU. The Yellow Jackets also found a first place finish in the men's DMR after
Levi Smith,
Trinity Brady,
Braden Anderson, and
Keith Osowski completed the run in 10:33.23.
Distance
Senior
Lincoln Fleischman (16:01.04) ran his way into first place in the men's 5000m run while
Marcos Valerio (16:32.57) was right behind his teammate in second.
David Standish (9:20.06) led BHSU in the 3000m run after placing third while
Wyatt Ostler (9:22.43) found fifth.
The Yellow Jackets had two men place in the top three of the 800m run as
Braden Anderson (2:00.56) and
Trinity Brady (2:02.57) finished second and third, respectively.
In the one-mile run, seven Yellow Jackets competed in the event, with three of them falling into the top five:
Keith Osowski (4:23.86) placed first,
Levi Smith (4:35.72) ran into fourth, and
Braik Hurm (4:37.42) came in fifth.
Mason Swingholm (4:38.19) fell right behind them in sixth while Reece Charest (4:43.46) and
Seth Gustafson (5:05.92) finished eighth and eleventh.
Jumps/Vaults
Conor McGraw (1.70m) competed in the men's high jump for BHSU and found sixth place at the event. In the pole vault,
Ryan Foy (4.17m) and
Shane Karajanis (4.02) took places in the top five after placing third and fourth, respectively.
Throws
Last week,
Sully Mack's 16.90m throw found him in second place at the Myrle Hanson Open, which earned him RMAC Field Athlete of the Week. Mack, however, outdid himself as he reached a new personal best mark of 17.77m, putting him in first place at the David Little Alumni Mile Open.
Senior
Anthony Rosenstrauch also found himself in the top five after a 13.87m throw earned him fifth while
Matthew Lofaso placed 12
th with a 12.42m weight throw.
At shot put, Lofaso (11.69m) placed 10
th while
Reece Ullery (11.35m) threw an 11
th place shot put.
WOMEN
Sprints/Hurdles
Breanne Fuller led the Yellow Jackets once again this week in the 200m dash and 60m dash after running first-place times once again. She ran a 7.72 60m dash and a 25.64 200m.
In the women's 400m dash,
Mikayla Tracy (1:01.96) and
Jillian Brennan (1:03.72) placed in second and third while
Kaylee Terry (1:06.31) ran a fifth-place time. At the 60m hurdles, BHSU was represented by
Sophie Curtis (9.83) and Kendall Tietjan (10.23), who placed first and second.
Distance
Freshman
Katie Turpin led the ladies in the women's 3000m run after running a 10:53.50 time that saw her take the top spot.
Madeline Hill also ran for BHSU and placed fourth with an 11:36.32 3k.
Jumps/Vaults
Erin Weibel competed in the pole vault and triple jump events for the Yellow Jackets, placing third in both events. She vaulted a 3.32m pole vault and recorded a 10.03m triple jump.
Throws
Makayla Friederich (14.93m) led the BHSU ladies with a third-place weight throw while
Hanah Sullivan (14.03m) joined her in the top five with a fifth-place performance.
Christianna Wall (13.59m) threw a sixth-place weight while
Kitrie Frank (11.85m) finished tenth: all throws recorded were collegiate personal bests for the ladies.
Friedrich (11.73m) and Sullivan (11.31m) both found the same placements in the women's shot put, with Friedrich's throw just shy of her personal best, 11.89m throw from last year's RMAC Outdoor Championship.
