Offense Totals 471 Yards in Close 42-37 Loss

Black Hills State football played tough against RV CSU Pueblo in the team's season finale, falling 42-37 Saturday night.

The Yellow Jackets (6-5, 5-4 RMAC) bested the ThunderWolves with 471 yards of total offense, 171 rushing yards, 300 passing yards, and 27 first downs.

Tanner Clarkson completed 23 of 34 passes for 300 yards and three touchdowns. On the ground he added 12 carries for 42 yards and a touchdown.

Nolan Susel rushed 20 times for 109 yards and a touchdown, and hauled in four catches for 47 yards and a touchdown.

Hasaan Williams tallied a touchdown and 113 receiving yards on eight catches.

John Noordsy made two catches for 30 yards and a touchdown, and Jamin Wurtz hauled in 4 catches for 45 yards.

Defensively, Zecheriah Rodriguez-Brown led the team with 11 tackles. Raymond Iglesias made a sack on his six tackles.

Coleman Chapman booted a 46-yard field goal.

After BHSU missed a 48-yard field goal on their opening drive, CSUP went down the field on their ensuing drive to score and take an early 7-0 lead.

The Yellow Jackets would answer, though, putting together a long drive that lasted into the second quarter. After an 11-play, 75-yard drive, BHSU punched it in with an 8-yard touchdown pass from Clarkson to Noordsy, to even the score at 7-7.

The ThunderWolves added on with another touchdown midway through the second, moving back on top 14-7, a score that would hold until halftime.

Out of the locker room, the Yellow Jacket defense forced CSUP into a three-and-out, and after a shanked punt, the team would get the ball back at the Pueblo 29-yard line. BHSU took advantage of that field position a couple plays later, scoring on a 13-yard touchdown catch from Williams to lock things up again, 14-14.

CSUP would score twice more in the third quarter, but a 1-yard touchdown rush from Susel and a 46-yard field goal from Chapman kept pace, as the Yellow Jackets would trail 28-24 entering the fourth quarter.

BHSU answered another CSUP touchdown, with a 3-yard rush from Clarkson to make it a 35-30 game with under 10 to play.

The Yellow Jackets wouldn't give up, though, and later down 42-30, a 7-yard touchdown pass from Clarkson to Susel drew them back to within one possession, 42-37 with 1:03 remaining in the game.

But CSUP would recover the ensuing onside kick and seal their 42-37 win.
