The Donald E. Young Center Fieldhouse will once again be the site of track and field season beginnings for the Black Hills State University squads on Saturday, Dec. 10 as the Yellow Jacket teams are set to host the 2023 Holiday Open.
 
The meet will begin at 10 a.m. with the men's shot put and triple jump along with the women's pole vault, with running events kicking off at 11 a.m. on a rolling schedule, starting with the women's 1600m race.
 
After a 2022-23 indoor season that was marked by a plethora of school records, personal bests, and All-Conference performances from the Yellow Jackets, coach Austin Billings is ready to elevate BHSU track and field to the next level this season.
 
In-all, 20 new faces are in the lineup for both track and field teams, including the likes of four transfers joining the Yellow Jackets this year.
 
Nine men will return to the BHSU men's team in 2023, including last season's All-RMAC thrower - Sully Mack – and BHSU's 60m dash record holder Mason Sartain, to name a couple. On the women's side of the track, seven student athletes will return for the 2022-23 season, including the spring's All-RMAC throwers Hanah Sullivan and Kitrie Frank, who ended last spring's outdoor season as second-team All-Conference selections.
