BROOKINGS, S.D. – Black Hills State track and field completed the competition at the South Dakota State Indoor Classic meet and saw twelve personal best performances on the weekend, including a school-record performance in the women's 5k run.
Sylvia Brown was one of a few Yellow Jackets to attend and compete at the David Hemery Valentine Invite in Boston, Massachusetts. In the women's 5k run, Brown competed and finished with a 17:14.57 mark that not only beat a personal best but became the new BHSU school record for the respective event. Brown shaved off over a minute on her previous personal best of 18:22.92.
MEN
Sprints/Hurdles
In the men's 200m dash, three Yellow Jackets filled the field at the Sandford-Jackrabbit Athletic Conference:
Mason Sartain led BHSU's representatives with a 22.46 dash time that was only 0.02 seconds away from the school record.
Nicholas Hale completed the event with a personal best of 23.35 while
Dawson Lindeen timed his 200m dash at 24.74.
Distance
The distance events saw over eight Yellow Jacket personal bests over the weekend, including two in the 3k run, two in the 5k, three in the one-mile run, and one in the 800m run.
Tim Brown led BHSU with an 8:44.65 finish in the men's 3k to place 30
th, with
Levi Smith (8:59.77) and
Mason Swingholm (9:14.73) placing 48
th and 60
th respectively in personal best performances.
Hayden Grosz (15:04.77), who ran unattached, and
Lincoln Fleischman (15:32.70) clocked in personal best times of their own and finished 27
th and 46
th, respectively.
Braik Hurm (15:45.84),
David Standish (15:56.89), and
Wyatt Ostler (16:10.35) all competed for BHSU as well and finished in 58
th, 65
th, and 68
th in order.
Levi Smith led the way for the Yellow Jackets in the men's mile and finished with a personal best 4:23.51 time to place in 44
th. Reece Charest (4:26.79) and
Mason Swingholm (4:31.49) also turned in personal best times and earned 52
nd and 69
th.
David Standish timed his mile at 4:33.77 to earn a 75
th place finish while Fleischman clocked out in 79
th with a 4:34.46 mile.
At the men's 800m run,
Braden Anderson notched another Yellow Jacket personal best performance with his 32
nd place finish of 1:57.92.
Landon Nicholson (2:01.49) and Reece Charest (2:03.75) represented BHSU in the event and landed in 44
th and 46
th.
Throws
Sully Mack led the Yellow Jackets from the weight throw, once again smashing personal best marks after launching a 17.94m weight to land in the top ten at the SDSU Indoor Classic, with his throw only 4cm off of the NCAA provisional qualifying mark.
Matthew Lofaso also threw for BHSU and landed a 10.83m throw to place 48
th.
WOMEN'S
Sprints/Hurdles
Mikayla Tracy represented BHSU in the women's 400m dash as her 1:00.31 finish earned her 29th.
Kendall Tietjen ran in the 60m hurdles for BHSU and nailed a personal best 10.04 time.
Distance
In the women's 5k in Brookings,
Xiomara Robinson clocked a personal best time with a 17:13.21 time that placed her in the top five at the meet.
Katie Turpin (19:18.53) and
Madeline Hill (19:56.99) also competed for the Yellow Jackets and earned 40
th and 52
nd, respectively.
Hill also competed in the women's one-mile run and finished 70
th with a personal record of 5:38.45.
Jillian Brennan competed in the 800m run and finished 44
th with a 2:28.24 run.
Evie Boyd competed in the women's 3k and clocked a 10:48.75 performance that earned her a 34th-place finish in the field.
Jumps/Vaults
Erin Weibel was the lone Yellow Jacket in the women's pole vault field, finishing in 26
th with a 3.00m vault.
Throws
At the weight throw,
Hanah Sullivan led the Yellow Jackets with a 19th place, 14.67m throw that earned her a new personal best mark, crushing her previous record by over half a meter. Makayla Frederich threw a 14.55m weight that landed her in 20
th while
Christianna Wall tied her personal best, 13.59m throw for 34
th. Rounding out BHSU in the weights was
Kitrie Frank, who threw for 11.84m to land 46
th.
In the shot put, Frederich was the top finisher for BHSU, lugging a 12.05m shot put for 23
rd while Sullivan (11.91m) and
Anna Lewis (11.47m) landed in 25
th and 32
nd, respectively. Lewis' throw was a personal best mark for the freshman.

BHSU returns to the Donald E. Young Center Fieldhouse next weekend for the Stinger Open, which is slated to run on Saturday, Feb. 18.
