PUEBLO, Colo. – The Black Hills State track and field teams are gearing up for their first meet of the outdoor season this weekend at the CSU Pueblo Open Invitational on Friday, March 31 and Saturday, April 1.
The Yellow Jackets are coming into the outdoor season following a successful indoor season marked with overall team growth. Personal-record marks were aplenty, and a few school records were broken during the indoor portion as BHSU is looking to ride that momentum heading into their first outdoor competition of the season.
Friday's action will see field events kick off the weekend at 1 p.m. with the javelin and hammer throw followed by the triple jumps. The women will compete before the men in the javelin throw while the latter two events will see the men kick those events off.
Saturday's events will begin at 11 a.m. with the final throwing events and the remaining field events of the competition. Women's shot put and men's discus will begin on the hour with the opposing gender groups following the latter up in each competition. Field events will begin at 11 a.m. with the long jump and high jump before the pole vault, which is slated for 11:30 a.m.
Running events are slated to start with the women's 10k run and will follow a rolling schedule through the rest of the afternoon.
