WARRENSBERG, Mo. | Lawrence, Kan. | Azusa, Calif. – Black Hills State track and field completed their busy road weekend on Sunday, April 16 and came out of the weekend with three NCAA DII provisional marks, nine personal bests, and another broken program record on the season.
MEN
Jumps
For the third week in a row,
Mario Guerrero jumped a personal best at the UCM men's long jump after posting a 6.77m leap that landed the sophomore in sixth. Guerrero currently sits 19
th in the RMAC with his mark in the long jump as well as 14
th in the conference in the triple jump.
Distance
In the men's 1500m run at Azusa Pacific's Bryan Clay Invitational, sophomore
Tim Brown recorded a 3:53.21 time that placed him eighth all time in BHSU track and field history and sets him in the top 25 of the conference.
Brown also ran in the 3000m steeplechase in Azusa, with his 9:09.07 performance giving the Sheridan, Wyoming native his first NCAA provisional mark of his career and is the ninth fastest steeplechase time in program history. Brown now ranks fifth in the RMAC, 11
th in the DII South Central Region, and 28
th in all of DII in the steeplechase.
Throws
Senior
Sully Mack repped the Yellow Jackets at both the Kansas Relays and the UCM Mule Relays this weekend, competing in the hammer throw, javelin, and discus tosses.
At the University of Kansas, Mack launched a new personal best in the hammer throw after landing a tenth place, 52.42m throw while also throwing an eighth place, 53.14m javelin.
In his Missouri appearance, Mack tallied another top-ten throw in the men's javelin competition after spearing a 51.34m throw to land in tenth.
WOMEN
Distance
The next two performances from
Sylvia Brown and
Xiomara Robinson came from the women's 10k runs on Saturday, with both ladies notching provisional times and personal bests from their outing in Azusa, California.
Sylvia Brown, who posted a 10k time of 35:32.14, now boasts the all-time BHSU women's track and field 10k record, which earned her an NCAA provisional time and is the seventh fastest time in the conference this season. She also ranks 11
th in the South Central region and 28
th in NCAA DII. Her run broke the BHSU record by nearly 90 seconds.
Xiomara Robinson fell right behind her teammate in the same meet with a 36:06.14, which also broke the old program record and now sits second all-time behind Brown. Robinson's performance ranks her ninth in the RMAC and 13
th in South Central, earning the senior an NCAA provisional mark.
Vaults
Erin Weibel, who appeared at both the UCM and Kansas meets this weekend, vaulted 3.22m in Missouri which earned her a top-ten meet finish and marked an outdoor best, nearly becoming an overall personal best for the freshman.
Throws
Kitrie Frank had a big weekend in the javelin and hammer throw events as the sophomore threw personal bests in both competitions. Frank recorded a 40.79m hammer throw before landing in tenth with a 36.28m javelin throw.
Up Next
The Yellow Jackets head to Rapid City on Friday, April 21 for the South Dakota Mines meet, giving them a last-second tune-up before the RMAC Championship meet, which is scheduled to start on Friday, April 28.
