RAPID CITY, S.D. – Black Hills State track and field competed at a chilly and windy Bauer Open at South Dakota Mines last Friday and secured seven total first place finishes at the meet, which was hosted by South Dakota Mines.
Men
Sprints/Runs
Mason Sartain ran unattached in the men's 100m dash at O'Harra Stadium and nabbed a first-place finish with a 10.91 second dash. In the 400m run,
Trinity Brady (51.92) and
Frank Becker (55.28) landed in first and third, respectively.
The Yellow Jackets had two more top three finishes in
Marcos Valerio, who finished in third with a 4:15.93 time in the 1500m and a first-place finish in the men's 5k, clocking out at 16:19.34. He finished ahead of the next runner by 23.2 seconds.
Jumps
At the field events, BHSU found more success as
Mario Guerrero jumped into first place in the long jump with a 6.38m leap.
Reece Ullery also landed in the top three with his 6.03m long jump.
Throws
Sully Mack topped three of the four throwing events for BHSU, finding second in the discus throw (44.37m), second in the hammer throw (52.80m), and first in the javelin throw (52.83). Ullery also competed in the javelin throw competition and speared a third place, 45.87m throw.
WOMEN
Sprints/Runs
The women's 100m dash saw
Breanne Fuller (12.11) and
Mikayla Tracy (12.68) take first and second, respectively, while
Madeline Hill landed a personal best run of 5:15.92 in the Bauer Open women's 1500m.
Throws
Makayla Friederich threw for the Yellow Jackets in the women's shot put and threw a third place, 12.12m throw while freshman
Hanah Sullivan launched a fourth place, 11.97m shot put. Sullivan went on to place in the top three in the discus throw as she landed a 37.26m disc.

The track and field squads head to Chadron, Nebraska on Friday, April 28 to kick off the three-day RMAC Outdoor Championships, which will run through Sunday, April 30.
