Track and Field Has Two Named to CSC Academic All-District

Black Hills State men's and women's track and field/cross country is pleased to announce that junior Sylvia Brown and sophomore Tim Brown have both been selected to the 2022-23 CSC Academic All-District teams, which was announced Tuesday afternoon.

3.962 GPA – Exercise Science
Brown has been exceptional in the women's distance runs this season, with the junior out of Sheridan, Wyoming sitting 36th in the nation in the women's 10,000m after stellar appearances at the David Hemery Valentine Invite and 2023 Bryan Clay Invitational this season. 
 
At the Bryan Clay Invitational, Brown clocked 35:32.14 in the 10k race, which landed her an NCAA DII provisional mark as well as the all-time BHSU women's program record. The junior also broke another program record at Boston University's David Hemery Valentine Invite in the 5000m run, finishing the race in 17:14.57 to place third overall.
 
Brown also hit a one-mile personal best this season at the David Little Alumni Mile, running a 5:19.31 to place first in that contest. She tallied another career time in the 3000m at the Mark Schuck Open and Multi in Mankato, Minnesota, where she took second after completing the race in 10:11.65.
 
Along with her accomplishments on the track, Brown was also exceptional in the classroom as she maintained a 3.962 GPA as an exercise science major.

3.716 GPA – Mathematics
Brown has seen multiple instances of improvement in the men's 3K Steeplechase throughout the season and claimed a top-25 spot in the NCAA Division II field thanks to his performances at the Bryan Clay Invitational and the Portland Distance Carnival (PDC).
 
After recording a 9:09.07 at the Bryan Clay Invitational, Brown shaved nearly four seconds off on May 16 at the PDC with a provisional qualifying time of 9:05.96, which also placed Brown ninth all-time in BHSU men's program history and allowed for him to finish the season 25th in all of DII in that event.
 
The sophomore also locked in a career best 1500m performance at the Bryan Clay Invitational as he timed a 3:53.21 run, beating his previous best by five seconds.
 
To pair with his success on the track, Brown is a mathematics major and maintained a 3.716 GPA throughout the season.
