SPEARFISH, S.D. – Hosting their second indoor track and field meet of the indoor season, the Black Hills State University track and field teams hosted the Myrle Hanson Open inside the Donald E. Young Center Fieldhouse, highlighted by four first-place finishes and the top-3 finishers in the men's 800 meter.
It was a strong showing for the Yellow Jacket men in the 800m this afternoon, as the top-3 finishers all came from Black Hills State. Junior
Addison Red Fox (Jr., New Town, N.D.) paced the pack with a sub-two minute time (1:59.58), while a pair of freshmen runners in Caden Strasser (Fr.) and
Justyn France (Jr., Olathe, Kan.) followed closely behind with times of 2:00.61 and 2:03.53, respectively.
In the 60m men's race, it was
Mason Sartain (Sr., Bonneyville, Alberta, Canada) taking home the medal with a time of 7.01,
On the women's side, a pair of first-place finishes highlighted the day with Katelyn Krieger (Fr., Spirit Lake, Iowa) in the 800 meter, winning the race by over five seconds.
Evie Boyd (So., Erie, Colo.) took the top-sot in the 3000m with a time of 11:33.61.
Other notable men's performers include the pole vault where three Yellow Jackets finish in the top-5. Led by sophomore
Shane Karajanis (Jr., Sheridan, Wyo.) and freshman
Lane Longbrake (Fr., Belle Fourche, S.D.) finished in a three-way tie for first place with marks of 4.18 meters. Senior
Brett Glaser (Gr., Glasgow, Mont.) finished fourth with a mark of 3.88 meters.
In the men's mile,
Tim Brown (Jr., Sheridan, Wyo.) made his first racing appearance since the 2023 NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships, and took a second-place finish with a time of 4:23.43 for BHSU.
Women's shot put saw a pair of Yellow Jackets finish second and third, respectively. Sophomore
Hanah Sullivan (So., Sheridan, Wyo.) had a mark of 12.85m for a second-place finish, while
Makayla Friederich (Jr., Scotland, S.D.) put a best toss up at 12.55m for third-place.
Also of note,
Sophie Curtis (Sr., Bettendorf, Iowa) took a second-place finish in the 60m hurdles with a time of 9.51 seconds.
