SPEARFISH, S.D. – The Black Hills State University track and field teams put on their best performance of the season in the annual David Little Alumni Mile inside the Donald E. Young Center Fieldhouse. The Yellow Jackets had several incredible performances, top conference marks, and personal bests on the weekend.
"WHAT. A. MEET. 20+ personal bests, two provisional qualified national (championships) marks, and carrying a ton of confidence into the coming weeks! We are so proud of these athletes and what they were able to do today," commented head track and field coach
Austin Billings. "Today was FUN! What a huge step forward in the process. We have about half of the indoor season to go and way more in the tank! The sky is the limit for this group! It's a great day to be a Yellow Jacket!"
To cap off a solid team performance up and down the roster, the duo of
Brett Glaser (Gr., Glasgow, Mont.) and
Hanah Sullivan (So., Sheridan, Wyo.) both hit National Collegiate Athletic Conference (NCAA) Division II provisional marks for the 2024 NCAA Division II Indoor Championships this weekend.
Glaser won the heptathlon in a field of six competitors, finishing ahead of teammate
Conor McGraw (Sr., Hannah, Wyo.) with 5,032 points. The mark hit the NCAA provisional mark of 4,710 points and it sits 14
th in the nation after today (2
nd in the RMAC). To highlight the event, the graduate student cleared a personal-best 4.30 meters in the pole vault, which sits tied for 12
th in the RMAC (among heptathlon athletes).
Sullivan hit the provisional mark in the shot put with a throw of 13.74m, a new personal best for the sophomore. The mark surpassed the NCAA provisional mark of 13.60 meters and currently sits 13
th in the RMAC through the weekend. She took first-place in the event and was just one of two athletes to cross the 13-meter mark as it currently ranks third in the RMAC. Additionally, she also competed in the weight throw with a throw of 15.30 meters, winning that event in a field of 13 athletes.
Freshman
Lane Longbrake (Fr., Belle Fourche, S.D.) put together a personal best 4.46m pole vault to win the event, now sitting eighth in the RMAC in the event. Meanwhile,
Dawson Lindeen (So., Huntley, Mont.) also put together a personal best mark in the pole vault with a mark of 4.31, a personal best for him and sitting 10
th in the RMAC this season.
The 200-meter dash saw
Mason Sartain (Sr., Bonneyville, Alberta, Canada) put up a mark of 22.24 to finish second in the event, a time that now sits 11
th in the league. He would also take the top spot in the 60-meter dash with the only sub-seven-second time of the group (6.94).
On the women's side,
Kendall Tietjen (So., Clearmont, Wyo.) and her personal best 2:21.51 time in the 800m was enough to win the event in a field of 14 athletes and now sits 19
th in the RMAC.
Ceegan Atkins (Fr.) in the 60-meter hurdles posted a 9.45 personal best and it ranks 21
st in the league.
Joining Sullivan in the weight throw this weekend were both
Makayla Friederich (Jr., Scotland, S.D.) and
Christianna Wall (So., Sidney, Mont.), both putting up top-25 marks in the RMAC. Friederich took a fourth-place finish with a throw of 14.94 meters for a 17
th-best mark in the conference. Wall took sixth-place with a personal best throw of 13.90 meters.
Also, in the shot put,
KyleeJo Symonds (Fr.) hit a mark of 11.07 meters for a personal best and sits tied for 24
th in the conference.
