A Pair of School Records Fall at SDSU Indoor Classic

Braden Anderson (800m) and Mason Sartain (200m) set new indoor program marks

BROOKINGS, S.D. – A pair of Black Hills State Indoor records fell at the South Dakota State University (SDSU) as Braden Anderson broke the record in the 800-meter and Mason Sartain did so in the 200-meter in the final meet away from Spearfish for the indoor season.

It was a stellar day inside the Sanford-Jackrabbit Athletic Complex for Anderson (So., Haxtun, Colo.), hitting the NCAA Division II provisional mark and setting a new program indoor record in the event. His time of 1:52.24 took second-overall at the event and topped the program record that was previously held by Levi Fried that was set in 2017 (1:52.61). Furthermore, after the weekend the mark sits top-3 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) and currently sits 38th in Division II.
To wrap up the Indoor Classic for the Yellow Jackets, the second school record of the day would fall. In the 200-meter, Sartain (Sr., Bonneyville, Alberta, Canada) ran a time of 22.36 seconds. In a field with Division I athletes, he took 16th and put up the third fastest time of the Division II participants. He topped the marks set by Taylor Hepp (2018) and Tristan Hepp (2019) who both ran times of 22.44.
Continuing the action, Erin Weibel (So., Casper, Wyo.) set a huge new season-best with a tie for first finish in the Pole Vault, tied with an athlete from St. Thomas (Minn.). Being the highest-placing Division II athlete, the clearance of 3.30 meters sits tied for eighth in the RMAC this season. Also in the event was teammate Brekkan Lockhart (Fr.) as the freshman continues to notch new personal bests, seeing continued growth in her first collegiate track season, as she also cleared 3.30 meters.

In the women's shot put on Friday Hanah Sullivan (So., Sheridan, Wyo.) took 11th overall with a throw of 12.88 meters. Her mark was the second-best among NCAA Division II athletes competing in the event. Sitting inside the top-50 in Division II this season, Sully Mack (Gr., Watertown, S.D.) finished T10th in the men's weight throw with a toss of 17.22 meters, also being the second-best throw of DII athletes.

With a jump of 6.63 meters, Brett Glaser (Gr., Glasgow, Mont.) took a top-10 finish in the men's long jump at eighth.

Up Next: The Yellow Jackets will return to Donald E. Young Center Fieldhouse for one more meet in the Stinger Open prior to hosting the 2024 RMAC Indoor Championships next Saturday, February 17.
