SPEARFISH, S.D. – In the final tune-up before the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) Indoor Track & Field Championships, the Black Hills State University track and field teams had one final regular season meet inside the Donald E. Young Center Field House, hosting the Stinger Open.
Black Hills State welcomed both Chadron State and South Dakota Mines to Spearfish in the final week of the regular season and saw 10 first-place finishes at the meet.
Freshman
Alexis Weiers (Morgan, Utah) took the top-spot in the women's mile run in a field of 11 athletes. In the 3,000-meter run, it was a field of all Yellow Jackets as
Evie Boyd (So., Erie, Colo.) took the top spot with a time of 11:25.90.
In the women's 60-meter hurdles, in a field of five competitors, the Yellow Jackets took the top three spots and all finished with times under 10 seconds led by
Sophie Curtis (Sr., Bettendorf, Iowa) with a time of 9.06.
In the women's weight throw,
Makayla Friederich (Jr., Scotland, S.D.) won the event with the only throw over 15 meters (15.66) in a field of seven athletes.
On the men's side,
Mason Sartain (Sr., Bonneyville, Alberta, Canada) won the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.41 seconds in a field of 18.
Caden Strasser (Fr.) took the win in the 800-meter with a time of 1:58.36.
Up Next: The Yellow Jackets will host the 2024 RMAC Indoor Track and Field Championships next weekend, Friday and Saturday, February 23-24 inside the Donald E. Young Center Field House. Events begin at 9:00 a.m. on Friday.
