COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Black Hills State University softball team (1-10, 0-6 RMAC) opened the four-game Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) against the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs Saturday afternoon. Despite the first-career home run from
Audrey Fouras and
Ashlynn Pauwels extending her on-base streak to nine-straight games, the Yellow Jackets dropped both games of the doubleheader.
GAME 1: UCCS 9, BHSU 0 (F/5)
PITCHING DECISIONS:
Win: Autumn Kunze (5-1)
Loss: Shayla Tuschen (1-3)
A promising start to the contest with a lead-off single from
Lily Simmons (So., Frederick, Colo.) but three-straight outs would end the Yellow Jacket threat. The Mountain Lions would get a runner into scoring position in the bottom half of the frame with two away, but
Shayla Tuschen (Sr., Sioux Falls, S.D.) would pick up her first strike out of the game to end the threat.
In the second inning, UCCS would get the first two runners on to start the inning. Tuschen would then pick up back-to-back punch outs to quickly make it two on with two away. The Mountain Lions would pick up one run in the inning on an RBI single, before Tuschen picked up the final out of the inning, also via strike out, but UCCS led 1-0 after two innings of play.
A five-run third inning for UCCS would open up a 6-0 lead for the home squad. Taking advantage of opportunities and a two-run home run would prove to be the difference in the inning, and the game for the Mountain Lions. UCCS would tack on three more runs in the home half of the fourth inning to take the 9-0 win in five innings in Game 1.

- Ashlynn Pauwels went 2-for-2 in the series opener, picking up her team-leading fifth double of the season.

GAME 2: UCCS 5, BHSU 2
PITCHING DECISIONS:
Win: K. Bond (3-1)
Loss: Laci Peskey (0-5)

A second inning two-RBI double for UCCS doubled their lead to 4-1. They would add one more run in the fourth to make it 5-1 at the time.
The fifth inning saw
