ALAMOSA, Colo. – Kalla Bertram dropped a career-high 20 points in the valiant effort, as Black Hills State University women's basketball team (15-9, 12-8 RMAC) battled to the very end but fell 67-64 to the Grizzlies of Adams State University (21-7, 16-4 RMAC) to conclude the regular season road slate for the season.
The two sides went back and forth in the first quarter, but easy buckets saw BH jump out to a 14-8 lead with three and a half minutes left in the frame. Black Hills State would hold a six-point, 21-15 lead after 10 minutes of play.
Adams State turned it on in the second quarter, outscoring the Yellow Jackets 20-8 in the frame. At the half, the Grizzlies led 35-29 after their second quarter run.
Black Hills State opened the second half with five -straight points. Trading buckets and a one-point lead for the first six minutes. Adams State would lead by as many as five points twice late in the frame, but the Yellow Jackets pull to within one heading into the fourth quarter, 49-48.
The final frame started with an 12-2 Grizzly run to take a 61-50. Down 10 points with under five minutes to play, Black Hills State scored seven-straight points. However, down the stretch, when forced to put the Grizzlies at the free throw line, they would convert and defended the home floor, 67-64.
GAME NOTES
- Kalla Bertram dropped a career-high 20 points in the game, her first 20-point game of her career.
- She also tied her career-high with nine rebounds.
- Ellie Moore added 17 points and eight rebounds in the effort.
- Gracie Haneborg also grabbed nine rebounds and dished out a team-high three assists.
- The Yellow Jackets drop to 10-4 all-time against Adams State.
Up Next: Black Hills State will return home for the final weekend of the regular season next weekend, playing host to Colorado Christian (16-10, 12-8 RMAC) on Friday, March 1 at 5:00 p.m. with both teams tied for sixth-place at 12-8 in league play.
