AZUSA, Calif. / WARRENSBURG, Mo. – The Black Hills State University track and field teams had a busy weekend of meets all over the country in the final weekend of the regular season. Graduate multi-athlete
Brett Glaser set a new BHSU outdoor record in the decathlon out in California to highlight a stellar weekend of competition for the Yellow Jackets.
BRYAN CLAY INVITE (AZUSA, CALIF.)
The Bryan Clay Invite, hosted by Azusa Pacific University, started off with a bang on Wednesday afternoon when
Tim Brown (Jr., Sheridan, Wyo.) ran an 8:58.90 in the men's steeplechase to hit the 2024 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Outdoor Championships provisional mark. And as of today, that mark sits thirrd in the RMAC and No. 14 in the Division II ranks. At the invite, he had the fourth-best time of Division II athletes that ran the event.
Glaser (Gr., Glasgow, Mont.) continued his solid performance this season with the breaking of the Black Hills State decathlon record with 6,832 points. He breaks Tucker Tonkel's mark of 6,566 points set back in 2003 and it is the best mark in the Division II era since Alex Anderson recorded 6,361 points.
The solid performances would continue for the Yellow Jackets into the 800-meter run on Friday.
Katelyn Krieger (Fr., Spirit Lake, Iowa),
Addison Red Fox (Jr., New Town, N.D.), and
Braden Anderson (So., Haxtun, Colo.) all hit personal best marks in the event. Krieger ran a time of 2:19.59, Red Fox a time of 1:56.29, and Anderson a mark of 1:52.04.
MULE DAYS (WARRENSBURG, MO.)
In Missouri on Friday,
Alexis Weiers (Fr., Morgan, Utah) posted her personal best time in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 11:43.81, good for a fourth-place finish at the meet and moving her into the 13
th best time in the RMAC.
Abby Robberson (Fr., Casper, Wyo.) made her 10k debut and her first-career collegiate race with a time of 39:46.99. The time also puts her 15
th best in the RMAC after the weekend.
The personal bests would continue for BH as
Ceegan Atkins (Fr., Hanover, Kan.) hit her best time of 14.96 seconds in the 100-meter hurdles, which sits top-10 all-time in program history and ninth this season in the RMAC.
The 400-meter hurdles saw a pair of Yellow Jackets hit personal bests in Warrensburg.
Kendall Tietjen (So., Clearmont, Wyo.) with a time of 1:04.37 and
Flynn Johnston (Fr., Whanganui, Manawatu, New Zealand) with a mark of 56.64. Tietjen now sits seventh in the RMAC this season in the 400H, while Johnston sits 11
th.
On the men's side,
Tuner Christians (Fr., Highlands Ranch, Colo.) also made his collegiate debut in the 10k with a time of 32:30, finishing seventh.
Jace Johnson (Fr., Rapid City, S.D.) ran a time of 10.86 in the 100-meter sprint, putting him sixth in the BH top-10 list and 24
th in the conference after the weekend.
MIDWEST CLASSIC (EMPORIA, KAN. – THROWERS)
On Saturday,
Matt Lofaso (So., Syracuse, Utah) hit an outdoor personal best in the men's shot put with a throw of 12.92 meters. The mark now sits 18
th in the RMAC after the weekend.
In the women's shot put,
Christianna Wall (So., Sidney, Mont.) moved into 22
nd in the RMAC this season with a toss of 11.18 meters, while
KyleeJo Symonds (Fr.) now sits 24
th with a throw of 10.92 meters down in Kansas.
LEOPARD DISTANCE CARNIVAL (LA VERNE, CALIF.)
The BH distance athletes competed at the Leopard Distance Carnival, hosted by the University of La Verne.
The Yellow Jackets had notable performances from
Sylvia Brown (Jr., Sheridan, Wyo.) who went 17:57.18 in her outdoor season opener in the 5,000-meter run. She finished 34
th in a field of 110+ athletes from all divisions of the NCAA. It also marked her first race since the cross country National Championships in the fall, and the time puts her 15
th in the RMAC. Additionally, on the men's side,
Marcos Valerio (Jr., Green River, Wyo.) who finished with a time of 14:57.85 also in the 5,000-meter run in a field of 115+ athletes.
LONG BEACH STATE INVITE (LONG BEACH, CALIF.)
At Long Beach State, Valerio ran a time of 4:02.96 in the 1,500-meter run, while Anderson ran the 800-meter with a time of 1:54.54.
