GOLDEN, Colo. – The Black Hills State University football team fell for the first time in RMAC action on Saturday afternoon as they dropped a 52-24 contest to No. 4/7 Colorado School of Mines. The Orediggers grabbed all momentum out of the gates as they went up two possessions in a matter of two minutes to begin the game, en route to a 35-point first quarter in their homecoming victory to extend their conference-leading 24-game win streak in league play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Colorado School of Mines took no time to strike early in the contest as a four play, 75-yard drive took only 1:39 of game time and was capped by a 37-yard touchdown pass from Evan Foster to Max McLeod. The extra point by Matthew Eich made it 7-0 with 13:21 left in the quarter. The Orediggers kept their foot on the gas early as they recovered a surprise onside kick and scored on the first play of the drive with a 53-yard touchdown rush by Landon Walker. The ensuing PAT made it a 14-0 contest with 13:09 remaining in the first period.
- Once the Black Hills State offense was able to get their hands on the ball, they returned the favor with a 75-yard drive of their own as Luke Duby was able to string together a trio of completions going for 15, 18, and 26 yards, leading up to a 6-yard touchdown pass to Cameron Goods as he was scrambling towards the left pylon. Ryan Ewing tacked on the extra point to draw BHSU within 14-7 as 10:15 remained on the first quarter clock.
- The Oredigger offense continued their early momentum as another 75-yard scoring drive was capped by a 3-yard passing touchdown from Foster find McLeod for a second time in the contest. The extra point made it 21-7 with 7:22 left midway through the opening quarter.
- The Yellow Jackets were only able to pick up two more first downs the remainder of the first quarter, which allowed the CSM quick strike offense back onto the field. Foster found Flynn Schiele for a pair of touchdown passes in the closing minutes of the first quarter, a 36-yard touchdown pass with 2:44 left on the clock followed by an 8-yard touchdown pass with no time left in the period as they extended their lead to 35-7.
- Black Hills State methodically moved the ball down the field in their first possession of the second quarter, as Dubby connected with Damien Boozer and Ashar Granger for 11-yard pass plays, as well as Kelby Olson for a 13-yard gain, as the drive ended at 16 plays spanning 8:33 of game time with a 38-yard Ewing field goal. The score was trimmed to 35-10 with 6:27 left till halftime.
- The Yellow Jacket defense looked to see a spark as Nicc Quinones picked off Foster on an underthrown pass, giving BHSU possession deep in their own territory late in the second quarter.
- After Black Hills State was forced to punt with just under one minute remaining till the break, Colorado School of Mines took advantage with one final touchdown as Foster found McLeod for his third touchdown of the half, this time a 7-yard reception to make it a 42-10 game at the break.
- Following a BHSU three and out on the opening possession of the third quarter, the Orediggers took possession on their own 45-yard line and in five plays saw Foster find Schiele for his third touchdown of the day on a 41-yard reception with 11:42 remaining in the period. Eich's extra point made it a 49-10 game.
- The Yellow Jackets looked to tack on three points midway through the third quarter as Ewing connected on a 47-yard field goal, however BHSU accepted a CSM offsides penalty to set up a 4th and short situation as they looked to extend the drive. On the 4th down play Duby's pass fell incomplete in the left flat, resulting in a turnover on downs.
- CSM scored their final points of the game on the ensuing possession when the BHSU defense held them to a 28-yard field goal by Eich, pushing the score to 52-10 with 2:35 remaining in the third quarter.
- Starting in the closing minutes of the third quarter, Black Hills State began to drive as they picked up first downs on a 13-yard rush by Cameron Goods and a 26-yard reception by Olson from Duby. The offensive momentum continued into the fourth when Olson snagged a 31-yard reception to bring the Yellow Jackets down to the goal line. Kade Weber then powered into the end zone on the quarterback keeper with 13:46 left in the game. Ewing made it a 52-17 game with the PAT.
- After the teams traded punts the BHSU defense made another big play as Doodles Quinones picked off a pass by Jake Sype and returned the ball 23 yards into the red zone. Black Hills State cashed in on the turnover as Jayden Williams caught a deflected pass from Duby for an 8-yard touchdown reception. Ewing tacked on the extra point to cut the deficit to 52-24 with 3:25 left in the game.Â
