ALAMOSA, Colo. – It was a complete game for the offense, defense, and special teams on Saturday afternoon at Rex Stadium as the Black Hills State University football team cruised to a 59-0 win at Adams State. The dominant performance was an all-around effort that was led by quarterback
Luke Duby, passing for 331 yards and five touchdowns in just three quarters of action. Of his five passing touchdowns he found four different receivers in the end zone, which included
Kelby Olson who went over 100 receiving yards for the second time in his career and secured his first-ever multi-touchdown game. The 599 yards of total offense were the most since a 75-point performance against Fort Lewis in 2022 and improved the Green & Gold to 6-1 under head coach
Josh Breske when they hit the 500-yard mark. Defensively for the Yellow Jackets it was that same dominant performance against the Skyhawks three years ago that was the last shutout by the unit, as they held the Grizzlies to just 237 yards of offense with 3.6 yards per play and 13 first downs. The defense also contributed to the scoring, as a third quarter pick-six by
Joshua Faulkner was the first defensive score of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- After a punt on the opening possession of the game by Black Hills State, the Adams State offense got the ball in plus territory as Devin Dawkins returned the punt 49 yards to the BHSU 36-yard line. The Yellow Jacket defense, however, would force a turnover on downs as the pressure by the defensive line forced Gavin Herberg to drop the ball in the backfield and an offensive lineman recovered it for a loss of five yards on the play.
- It took only three plays for the Green & Gold to score on their second drive of the game, as Cameron Goods ran the ball for 17 and 21 yards, and then Luke Duby found TJ Chukwurah for his 15th touchdown of the season on a 13 yard reception to the back left corner of the end zone to make it 7-0 with 9:05 to play.
- With punts on each of the next three possessions, BHSU snagged the momentum in the final minute of the first quarter, as Duby found Chukwurah on the right sideline and one of the nation's top receivers then made defenders miss as he raced down to the ASU 3-yard line on a 61-yard reception. The drive would end in a 22-yard field goal by Ryan Ewing as he split the uprights to make it a 10-0 contest with 14:12 remaining in the second quarter.
- Following the field goal, the Yellow Jacket defense forced their first of two turnovers on the day as Herschel Craig III fell on a fumble at the ASU 37-yard line that was a result of a bad handoff. Despite the good field position, the BHSU offense would go three and out and punt for the final time in the contest as Duby booted a quick kick that would be downed at the ASU 1-yard line.
- While the defense continued to get stops and force Adams State to punt, the Black Hills State offense scored on back-to-back possessions to open up the game. First it only took three plays, as following an 18-yard completion to Danny Davis to move the chains, Duby found Kelby Olson for a 52-yard touchdown reception where he received a critical block by Ashar Granger and made a tackler miss to get into the open field. The score made it 17-0 with 7:04 left in the half. Then the Green & Gold took 4:15 off the clock on a 9-play, 78-yard drive that was capped by a walk-in 27-yard receiving touchdown by Granger who Duby found in open space across the middle of the field. Earlier on in the drive that put the Yellow Jackets up 24-0 with 1:52 to play, Duby also completed passes of 23 and 22 yards respectively to Granger and Olson to move the chains.
- It took less than a minute for Black Hills State to find the end zone in the second half, but this time it was not the offense, it was the defense and Joshua Faulkner who took an interception 40-yards to the house for a pick-six with 14:03 to play to make it 31-0. When Adams State got the ball back after their second turnover of the game, the Yellow Jacket defense again would give their offense the ball in plus territory with their second fourth down stop of the match-up as Alexander Vasiliou stopped Braden Biller three yards short of the sticks at the ASU 41-yard line.
- On the first offensive possession of the second half for Black Hills State all they needed was one play to put the ball in the end zone again. Duby found Olson for his second touchdown of the game on a 38-yard reception, getting behind the defensive backs and falling across the goal line as he hauled the ball in with 10:25 on the clock and the score getting pushed to 38-0.
- The lone scoring opportunity of the game for the Grizzlies came as they utilized a 33-yard pass from Herberg to Rasheed Ranklin, and a 12-yard reception by Jaysn Wade from Herberg to move the ball into the red zone. ASU would be unable to capitalize on their lone red zone opportunity as Quinton Pacheco missed a 35-yard field goal wide left.
- Following the missed field goal attempt, the BHSU offense went right back to work as Goods caught a pass from Duby for a 33-yard gain across midfield and then ran the ball 26-yards into the red zone. Duby then completed his fifth touchdown pass of the afternoon to his fourth different receiver, this time finding Josh Dunn for his first career touchdown reception on a 20-yard completion to make it a 45-0 game with 3:08 left in the third quarter.
- The Yellow Jackets utilized a pair of 10-play drives that each took more than five minutes off the fourth quarter clock. The first drive of the final period went 74 yards with Kade Weber at the control of the offense. Goods first moved the chains on his final carry of the game with a 12 yard run, and then Wyatt Trembly ran the ball down the middle of the field with a 36-yard carry across midfield to the ASU 34-yard line. The drive was capped with a 10-yard rushing touchdown by Weber, his third of the season, to make it 52-0 with 10:00 remaining in the contest. The final scoring drive of the game for the Green & Gold was directed by Dylan Eldredge under center. The junior quarterback competed passes of 16 and 14 yards to Dunn and Chase Lofton early in the drive, and then tossed his first touchdown pass of his Yellow Jacket career on a 28-yard completion to Lofton down the right sideline to make it 59-0 with just 1:08 to play.Â
