SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH – The Black Hills State Yellow Jackets were able to hold off a strong third quarter surge from the Westminster Griffins to take a 64-55 win. A lot of the credit for stopping Westminster has to go to
Haylee Weathersby, who scored 12 of BHSU's first 14 points in the fourth quarter to turn a one-point deficit into a seven-point lead that the Yellow Jackets held onto for the remainder of the game.
Kalla Bertram also notched her fourth double-double of the season during the game.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Black Hills State started this game off on an 11-0 run, which lasted the first six minutes of the game before Westminster got on the board with a layup to make it 11-2 with 4:07 remaining in the quarter.
Emily Cooper and four other BHSU players each made shots to get BHSU that run. Westminster started to find the bottom of the net more and BHSU matched them shot for shot before
Bradie Schlabs hit a three pointer to send BHSU into the second up 17-8.
• After going back and forth to start the second, BHSU was able to build their lead to 12 with back-to-back layups from Schlabs and Bertram, so with 6:42 remaining, BHSU led 25-13. Westminster hit a couple of three pointers to cut the lead to 27-20, before Schlabs and Bertram each got buckets to bring it to 31-20. Westminster would end the scoring in the half with a two-point jumper by Maia Rhay to head into the break at 31-22.
• Weathersby and Nisa Ellis hit back-to-back turn around jumpers to keep BHSU's lead at nine 33-24 before Weathersby converted a three-point play to bring BHSU's lead to 12. Westminster would hit two threes and a layup in an 8-0 run that would cut BHSU's lead down to four, it's lowest since 4-0 at 36-32. BHSU would go on a 6-2 run to bring the lead back to eight at 42-34. Marli Reed hit a three-point shot for the Griffins to bring the lead to three at 44-41 with 2:14 remaining in the quarter. Each team would make two free throws to end the third at 46-43 heading into the final frame. It is the second lowest margin since the start of the game.
• Westminster made the first two baskets of the quarter to give them their first lead of the night at 47-46. Then Weathersby went on a 10-2 run to give BHSU a 56-49 lead with 3:55 remaining in the game. The Griffins answered back with four free throws to cut the lead to 56-53, before Haneborg made a layup to get back to 58-53. Abby Conlee would make two free throws, before Weathersby made another layup for her 12th point of the quarter. BHSU ended the game making four straight free throws and held Westminster to one field goal after taking the lead earlier in the frame to take the win 64-55.

BHSU now heads to Colorado Mesa to try to avenge their earlier loss to them this season. Mesa has won 13 straight games and are very close to clinching an RMAC regular season championship.
