Yellow Jackets Fall to Grizzlies in Tight RMAC Battle

SPEARFISH, S.D. –  A 16-2 run in the third quarter for the Grizzlies was all it took to take the win away from BHSU despite a career-high 28 points from Kalla Bertram, who led all scorers in the game. BHSU tried to close the gap in the fourth quarter but fell just short at ASU takes down BHSU 77-69 to take sole possession of third place in the RMAC.

HOW IT HAPPENED
•    Kiiyani Anitielu started off the scoring for Adams State giving them an early 2-0 lead with a step back jumper. Morgan Hammerbeck immediately answered back with a corner three, before Anitielu made a layup to give ASU a 4-3 lead. Kalla Bertram hit a turnaround jumper and Taejhaun Hill hit a hook shot to keep the one-point lead. Brooke Rodgers hit a layup and so did Anitielu to give Adams State a 10-5 lead with 6:28 remaining. Haylee Weathersby made a layup to cut the lead to three, before Christabel Longe hit a three to give Adams State a six-point lead. After back-to-back jumpers by each team, BHSU would go on an 8-0 run with a Bradie Schlabs turnaround jumper, a Bertram three, and a Gracie Haneborg three-point play would give BHSU a 19-17 lead. Anitielu would hit a jump shot to tie it at 19, before Weathersby and Schlabs would each hit layups to end the quarter with a 23-19 lead. 
•    BHSU started the second quarter on a 6-2 run, which included two Schlabs layups and a Bertram turnaround jumper. Hill made a jumper to cut the lead back to six at 29-23 with 8:09 left in the half. RiAhana Davis and Bertram would trade layups to keep the lead at six, before Weathersby hit a layup to boost the lead to eight. Longe would go on a 5-0 run by herself to cut the lead to 33-30. Haneborg would make a jumper to extend the lead to five. The lead would stay that way until 31 seconds left in the half when Davis would make a layup to cut the lead to 37-34 heading into the half. 
•    Halftime leaders for the Yellow Jackets are Bertram with 13 points and three rebounds, Weathersby with eight points and six rebounds, and Schlabs with eight points, two rebounds, and two assists. The leaders for the Grizzlies include Anitielu, who had ten points and three assists, Longe with eight points and seven rebounds, and Hill with eight points. 
•    BHSU once again started the half on a 6-2 run with Bertram making two baskets and Haneborg also making a layup to give BHSU a 43-36 lead with 8:00 remaining in the quarter. Four points total were scored the next 2:15. However, Adams State would go on a 16-2 run over the next 5:00 of game time. Bertram would finally end the run with a 3-pointer to cut the lead to four, before Anitielu would hit a layup at the buzzer to send the Grizzlies into the fourth with a 56-50 lead. 
•    BHSU started the fourth quarter on a 5-0 run to cut the lead to one, before Adams State immediately answered with a 5-0 run of their own to give ASU a 61-55 lead with 8:08 remaining in the game. BHSU kept trying to cut the lead going on a 5-2 run to make it 63-60 with 6:41 left in the game. However, Angeline Nageak hit a three to bring it back to six. BHSU and Adams traded buckets until it was 74-67 with 41 seconds when BHSU had to start fouling. The Yellow Jackets couldn't get any closer and would fall to Adams State 77-69. Bertram would reach a career high 28 points in the fourth quarter.
