Pearson’s Top-3 High Jump Finish Highlights Yellow Jackets Afternoon at Ted Nelson Classic

MANKATO, Minn. – The Black Hills State University men's and women's track & field teams only had a handful of student-athletes in action this weekend, including a pair making their season debuts, as the Yellow Jackets traveled to the Ted Nelson Classic hosted by Minnesota State at the Myers Field House. Competing against some of the top competition in the NSIC, Trennan Pearson led the way for the Green & Gold as he posted a career-best mark in the high jump and notched his third top-3 finish of his freshman campaign.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED – MEN'S TRACK & FIELD
  • Mason Sartain made his season debut on Friday afternoon as the 2024 RMAC Indoor Championship finalist posted a time of 7.23 for a 13th place finish in the 60m dash, highlighting a trio of Yellow Jackets in the event.
  • The lone athlete for BHSU competing in the 200m dash was Isaac Job, who ran to a time of 24.79 and a 25th place finish.
  • Also making his season debut, Ashley Williams recorded a career-best 400m dash time of 57.68 for a 21st place finish.
  • Scoring his third top-3 finish in the high jump of his freshman campaign in the indoor season, Trennan Pearson cleared a career-best mark of 1.93m (6' 4") for third place in the event. 
HOW IT HAPPENED – WOMEN'S TRACK & FIELD
  • While having competed in the pole vault earlier this season already, Lauryn Bennett made her debut on the track as the lone Yellow Jacket competing in the 60m hurdles as she posted a time of 10.56 for a 15th place finish.
  • Bennett also competed in the pole vault as she cleared 2.76m (9' 0.5") for a 12th place finish on Friday afternoon.
UP NEXT
Another split weekend is on the docket next week for the Black Hills State track & field program as they visit Brookings, South Dakota, on Friday, February 14, and Saturday, February 15, to compete in the SDSU Indoor Classic. Additionally, a select group of distance runners will travel to Boston, Massachusetts, to compete on Saturday in the David Hemery Valentine Invitational hosted by Boston University.
