FORT COLLINS, Colo. – The Black Hills State University men's and women's track & field teams amassed nine top-5 finishes and 21 top-10 marks on Saturday at the Jack Christiansen Invitational hosted by Colorado State University. Among the nine top-5 marks, it was the pole vault crew that led the way with six as the men's team went 1-2-3 with a win by
Chase Maher, and the women's team posted the highest NCAA Division II finishers with
Erin Weibel leading a 3-4-5 finish in the event for the Green & Gold. Also securing a top-5 mark on the day was the 4x100 relay team of
Landon Scalise,
Jace Johnson,
Jude Guevara, and
Mason Sartain who notched the fourth-fastest time in the event in program history.
HOW IT HAPPENED – MEN'S TRACK & FIELD
- The pair of Jace Johnson and Mason Sartain posted top-10 finishes in the 100m dash, recording times 10.99 and 11.08 respectively. Sartain's time notched a new career-best in the event. Also competing in the event were Jude Guevara and Conor McGraw who finished 13th and 16th with times of 11.30 and 11.49.
- In the 400m dash, Ashley Williams ran to a time of 57.71 as the only Yellow Jacket in the event, recording a 15th place finish.
- Jayden Curtis crossed the finish line 13th in the 110m hurdles, clocking a career-best time of 15.71
- The 4x100 relay team of Landon Scalise, Johnson, Guevara, and Sartain finished fifth overall and was second among NCAA Division II competition with a time of 41.85, the fourth-fastest time in program history.
- Trennan Pearson notched a third place finish in the high jump as he cleared 1.83m (6' 0").
- The Yellow Jackets went 1-2-3 in the pole vault as Chase Maher secured his third victory in the event in the 2024-25 season (indoor & outdoor) as he cleared 4.57m (15' 0"). Notching second and third place finishes in the event were McKalester Johns and Shane Karajanis who each recorded marks of 4.42m (14' 6"). Johns cleared the height on his second attempt while Karajanis did so on his third attempt.
- Bridger Anderson tallied a top-10 finish in the long jump, recording a mark of 6.71m (22' 0.25") for a seventh place finish. Also competing in the event were Seth Wilson and McGraw who finished 14th and 15th respectively with jumps of 5.96m (19' 6.75") and 5.71m (18' 9").
- Black Hills State posted three top-10 finishes in the triple jump, highlighted by a top-5 finish by Curtis as he recorded a career-best mark of 13.06m (42' 10.25") for fifth place. Guevara was sixth in the event with a career-best mark of 12.72m (41' 8.75") and Wilson was seventh with a career-best jump of 12.64m (41' 5.75").
- Ryan Baker posted the top finish for the Green & Gold in the discus competition, notching a career-best and top-10 mark of 43.93m (144' 1") for ninth place. Also competing for BHSU was Logan Class who was 12th with a career-best throw of 41.67m (136' 8"), Anthony Rosenstrauch who was 13th with a mark of 41.27m (135' 5"), and Canyon Burkard who was 18th with a career-best throw of 37.70m (123' 8").
- The pair of McGraw and Barren Yellow Bird secured top-10 finishes in the javelin as they recorded career-best throws of 46.37m (152' 1") and 43.95m (144' 2") respectively for eighth and ninth place in the event.
HOW IT HAPPENED – WOMEN'S TRACK & FIELD
- The lone Yellow Jacket competing in the 100m hurdles, Alivia Weathers ran to a time of 16.32 for 12th place in the event.
- In the pole vault, BHSU posted four within the top-10, including three of which were in the top-5 of the event. Leading the way was Erin Weibel with a third place finish and top by an NCAA Division II athlete as she cleared an outdoor career-best mark of 3.45m (11' 3.75") which stands as the seventh-best in outdoor program history on the all-time performance list. Rounding out the top-5 of the event was Gretchen Adamski who was fourth with a mark of 3.30m (10' 10") and Brekkan Lockhart who was fifth with a mark of 3.15m (10' 4") on her first attempt. Lauryn Bennett also cleared 3.15m (10' 4") for a new career-best, recording the height on her third attempt for a seventh place finish.
- Weathers was the lone long jumper for the Green & Gold, recording a ninth place finish with a mark of 4.67m (15' 4").
- The pair of Cassidy Goddard and Isabell Higgins notched top-10 finishes in the discus competition, recording career-best marks of 40.88m (134' 1") and 38.79m (127' 3") respectively for eighth and ninth place.

The Black Hills State track & field programs will stay at home in Spearfish next weekend as they are set to host the inaugural Scott Walkinshaw Open & Multi on Friday, April 4, and Saturday, April 5, at Lyle Hare Stadium.
