Yellow Jackets Drop Second RMAC Tournament Game to UCCS

LAKEWOOD, COLO.- The Black Hills State Yellow Jackets fell to the UCCS Mountain Lions 3-0 in a pitcher's duel. The Yellow Jackets allowed two runs in the first inning before holding UCCS scoreless until the seventh, when they added a run. UCCS's pitching was just too good, and the pitching staff took a combined no-hitter into the sixth inning before a Katelyn Jarzobski single broke it up. The Yellow Jackets were officially eliminated from the RMAC Tournament with the loss today.

HOW IT HAPPENED 
•    Jacqueline Berkowitz hit a one-out single in the top of the first and then advanced to second on a single by Gianna Pancost. Both runners advanced on a single by Katie Steinmetz to load the bases. Taylor McCombs hit a one-out double to score two runs and give UCCS the early 2-0 lead. Laci Peskey got the next two batters out to end the top of the first inning. Whitlock reached first on a bunt that the pitcher couldn't handle, then advanced to third on a passed ball. Hannah Hunt was able to strike the next two batters before walking Ashlynn Pauwels with two outs. She was able to get Alyssa Wong to fly out to end the inning.
•    During the course of the game, Peskey settled down and produced scoreless inning after scoreless inning leaving seven Mountain Lions on base. In the fourth inning, UCCS had a runner on third with two outs and didn't score. In the fifth inning, Peskey allowed two straight singles to start the inning and then got the next three batters out. 
•    In the bottom of the sixth, Desi Hernandez walked and with two outs, Jarzobski broke up the no-hitter with a single to center field. Fouras walked to load the bases before Adreanna Lance flied out to end the inning. Bailey Olerich singled to lead off the inning and then stole second base. She advanced to third on a groundout before scoring on a double by Pancost. The Yellow Jackets were unable to score in the seventh inning despite getting a one-out double from Tyler Whitlock and BHSU was eliminated in a 3-0 loss to UCCS.

UP NEXT
The Yellow Jackets head into the offseason as they look to improve on this historic season. BHSU will lose four seniors, Tyler Whitlock, Ashlynn Pauwels, Taylor Dowden, and Adreanna Lance. The rest of the team will be back and RMAC Coach of the Year Ashlyn Englehorn will look to keep building on this wild year.
