SPEARFISH, S.D.- The Yellow Jackets celebrated 50 years of women's basketball today and used the good vibes and incredible crowd en route to a 58-41 win over their rivals South Dakota Mines. The Yellow Jackets held SDM to 41 total points, and the two teams shot a combined 130 shots and made 37 of them resulting in a combined shooting percentage of .284. The Yellow Jackets held South Dakota Mines to 28.1 percent from the field and 21.1 from three. BHSU also broke the D2 era record for rebounds in a game with 66, which they set earlier this year with 61 in Puerto Rico. They also broke the D2 era record for offensive rebounds in a game with 31 tonight.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The two teams started back and forth with McRae nailing two jumpers for BHSU and Morning Grace Spotted Bear hitting two for SDM. This brought the score to 4-4 early and after some free throws, Carolina Ruiz Molina hit a three to make it 8-6. Emily Cooper made a layup to tie it at eight and then SDM ended the quarter with a 10-2 run to make it 18-10 and hit two threes in that stretch. After hitting three threes in the first quarter, South Dakota Mines only hit one the rest of the way and barely doubled their score from the first quarter the rest of the game.
- BHSU went on a 21-2 run that lasted the entirety of the second quarter. Bradie Schlabs started the second quarter with a three followed by two layups by Taylin Serlen and another by Maureen Ulrich. After a minute and a half of no scoring, the Alli Glasscock made two free throws, Schlabs made a jumper, Norville hit one free throw and Ulrich got an and-one to put BHSU 27-18 and make it a 17-0 run. Ulrich made another layup and two free throws to make it 31-18 and finish the run at 21-0 before Spotted Bear hit a layup for SDM's first points in the quarter with 44 seconds left in the half and end the scoreless streak that lasted nearly the entire second period and send the game into halftime at 31-20.
- Halftime leaders for the Yellow Jackets included Ulrich, who had nine points and six rebounds, which were both team highs. Schlabs had seven points and five rebounds, and Serlen had four points and five rebounds. The Yellow Jackets had 32 rebounds in the first half. The leaders for South Dakota Mines was Spotted Bear, who had eight points and five rebounds, and Alexis Backhaus, who had eight points and four rebounds.
- The Yellow Jackets started the half on a 4-1 run, which included two Serlen free throws and a Sawyer Stoebner layup which brought the lead to 14 at 35-21. Mines immediately answered with a 6-0 run to get the lead under ten at 35-27. Stoebner finished the half with a free throw and a layup to make it 38-27 going into the final frame.
- The Green and Gold started the final frame on a 7-1 run with jumpers from Schlabs and Cooper and a three pointer from McRae. SDM found a 5-2 run that included the first basket of the day for one of the top scorers in the RMAC in Savea Mansfield and brought the lead down to 13. After an Alli Glasscock layup to make it 47-32, the Hardrockers went on another 5-0 run to make it 47-37 and get the lead to ten. BHSU got the next five points on a McRae jumper and a Schlabs three pointer to make it 52-37 with 4:26 to go. No one scored for the next two minutes until Spotted Bear hit a layup to cut the deficit to 12. McRae answered with back-to-back threes to make it 58-39 and then Spotted Bear hit another jumper to get the Hardrockers over 40 points and end the game only losing 58-41.
