Kruger’s 1000th Career Game Ends in Dominant Win Over Rangers

SPEARFISH, S.D.- Head coach Kelly Kruger coaches his 1000th career game tonight and it ended in a dominant 23-point win for the Yellow Jackets over the Regis Rangers. The Yellow Jackets were paced early in the first quarter as the Rangers nailed some big threes early in this one, but by the end of the first half, the Yellow Jackets had opened up a sizable lead and then continued to grow it all the way through with Bradie Schlabs dropping her second 20-point game and McRae nearly matched her with 18 points.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Regis started this game off on a 7-2 run with Kate Gallery hitting a three. The one BHSU basket came on a  Sawyer Stoebner fastbreak layup that gave Bradie Schlabs her 250th career assist making her only the ninth player in BHSU history to hit that mark. Schlabs celebrated that mark by hitting back-to-back threes and giving BHSU the 8-7 lead. The Rangers answered on a 9-2 run with another three from Kaylin Venick before McRae ended the quarter with a layup to cut the lead to 16-12 heading into the second quarter.
  • BHSU started the second quarter on a 10-0 run with threes from McRae and Emily Cooper and an Ulrich layup which put BHSU up 24-18. Ulrich hit another three for BHSU as it showed it was going to be a special night from deep for the Yellow Jackets. After five free throws from the two teams, Schlabs hit her career-high third three to put BHSU up 32-22. Norville hit two more free throws to make it 34-22, and McRae hit a buzzer-beater three to make it 37-22 heading into halftime.
  • Halftime leaders for the Yellow Jackets included Schlabs, who had 13 points in the half and two assists. McRae had eight points, while Ulrich had five points and six rebounds. Gallery had a team-high eight points with four rebounds, while Jessica Bollwahn had five points and seven rebounds.
  • McRae started the second half with a  three before Regis went on a 9-4 run with buckets by Schlabs and McRae keeping it from being a bigger run to cut the lead to 44-31. Schlabs made a fourth three to make it 47-31 and after a quick basket by Regis, Ulrich hit another three to make it 50-33. The Jackets turned that three into a 9-2 stretch that put BHSU up 56-35. Emily Allison hit a three for Regis and Alli Glasscock hit two of the last three baskets to make it 60-40 heading into the final quarter.
  • Schlabs hit a layup to begin the final frame and McRae hit another three to put BHSU up 65-40. The Rangers scored six of the next eight points to put it down to 20 and after another McRae jumper, Gallery hit a three to cut it to 20. Ulrich got a layup before Allison got a three-point play and BHSU went on an 8-0 run with two layups from Tess Rule, another layup from Taylin Serlen, and a pair of free throws from Jozie Dana. Regis ended the game with two buckets to finish the game at 79-56 with BHSU getting the win.
