GUNNISON, Colo. – The Black Hills State University men's and women's track & field teams competed at the 2026 RMAC Indoor Track & Field Championships this past Friday and Saturday, hosted by Western Colorado University in the Mountaineer Fieldhouse. The women's squad totaled 26.5 points for a ninth place team finish, which saw
Gretchen Adamski and
Lauryn Bennett reach the podium in the pole vault for second and third place finishes and First Team All-Conference honors. Earning Second Team All-RMAC accolades for the women's team included
Brekkan Lockhart (pole vault),
Cassidy Goddard (weight throw), and
Hanah Sullivan (shot put and weight throw). On the men's side, BHSU tallied 36 team points for a tenth place finish that included three podium finishes as
Evan Smith reached the podium with a second place finish in the 800m run and
Drew Lehman added a second place finish in the long jump and a third place finish in the triple jump for First Team All-RMAC honors. The men's squad also saw Second Team All-RMAC recognition for
Adam Stimes (high jump),
Chase Maher (pole vault), and
Ryan Baker (weight throw).

HOW IT HAPPENED – MEN'S TRACK & FIELD
- The weekend began with Black Hills State securing three top-10 finishes in the pole vault, led by Chase Maher who clinched Second Team All-RMAC honors as he cleared 4.78m (15' 8.25") for fifth place. With a career-best mark of 4.63m (15' 2.25"), McKalester Johns earned a seventh place finish and moved into seven all-time in program history. Dawson Lindeen rounded out the trio with a ninth place finish as he cleared 4.48m (14' 8.25").
- A week removed from clocking the second-fastest 60m dash time in program history, Landon Scalise clocked yet another sub-7 second time in the event as he ran a 6.96 for 14th in Friday's prelims.
- In the prelims of the 400m dash, Flynn Johnston ran to a time of 50.68 for 14th place.
- The final field event of the day on Friday afternoon saw another trio of Yellow Jackets secure top-10 finishes in the long jump. Earning First Team All-RMAC and a second place finish was Drew Lehman, recording a mark of 7.08m (23' 2.75"). Posting a mark of 6.70 (21' 11.75") for seventh place was Bridger Anderson, and Seth Wilson was ninth with a jump of 6.59m (21' 7.5").
- The final track event of the day on Friday saw the distance medley relay team of Jaxon Straus, Johnston, Landrum Wiley, and Gavin Kuhlenbeck clock a season-best time of 10:28.03 for seventh place.
- Saturday's conference championship action began with a Second Team All-RMAC high jump performance by freshman Adam Stimes, who posted a career-best jump of 1.96m (6' 5"). Trennan Pearson also competed in the event and recorded a 14th place finish by clearing 1.86m (6' 1.25").
- Lehman captured his second all-conference honor of the weekend on day two, posting a third place finish in the triple jump with a mark of 14.92m (48' 11.5") for First Team All-RMAC recognition. Also competing in the event were Casen Willson and Javin Walker who notched marks of 12.68m (41' 7.25") and 12.49m (40' 11.75") respectively for 17th and 18th place.
- Ryan Baker earned Second Team All-RMAC accolades in the weight throw, earning a sixth place finish with a toss of 17.43m (57' 2.25").
- The top-3 finishers in the 800m run were separated by just 0.13 seconds as Evan Smith tied for second place with a time of 1:51.61 for First Team All-RMAC honors. Also competing in the event was Wiley, who ran to a 12th place finish and time of 1:56.62.

HOW IT HAPPENED – WOMEN'S TRACK & FIELD
- The Friday action at the conference championships began with the pentathlon, as Alivia Weathers tallied 2,796 points for 13th place. Of the five events she finished in the top-10 of two of them, including a third place mark of 10.96m (35' 11.5") in the shot put and a seventh place and career-best time of 9.50 in the 60m hurdles. She also added a 14th place finish in both the 800m run (2:51.95) and the high jump (1.43m, 4' 8.25"), and a 16th place finish in the long jump with a mark of 4.42m (14' 6").
- Freshman Madyson Wolfe made her RMAC Championship debut in the 60m hurdles, clocking a time of 9.51 for 14th place in the prelims of the event.
- A trio of Yellow Jackets earned all-conference honors in the pole vault, including the pair of Gretchen Adamski and Lauryn Bennett achieving First Team All-RMAC accolades with career-best marks of 3.82m (12' 6.25") and 3.57m (11' 8.5") respectively. Notching a fifth place finish and Second Team All-RMAC honors was Brekkan Lockhart who also cleared a career-best height of 3.57m (11' 8.5"). Adamski's mark ranks fourth in school history and Bennett and Lockhart are tied for ninth all-time in program history. Also competing in the event, Hope Bryant matched a career-best height of 3.27m (10' 8.75") for 12th place.
- In the prelims of the 60m dash, Avery Marler ran to a time of 7.79 for 16th place.
- In the 5,000m run, Emma Hofmeister crossed the finish line in a time of 18:59.41 for 13th place.
- The duo of Marler and Saraya Afrank recorded 13th and 18th place finishes in the 200m dash respectively, with Marler's career-best time of 25.76 to move into fifth place all-time in school history and a season-best time of 26.57 by Afrank.
- Hanah Sullivan secured her first of two all-conference honors on Friday night, recording a sixth place finish in the shot put with a mark of 13.39m (43' 11.25") for Second Team All-RMAC recognition.
- The final field event of the day on Friday saw the pair of Afrank and Marler record 12th and 15th place finishes in the long jump, posting marks of 5.17m (16' 11.5") and 5.04m (16' 6.5") respectively.
- The final track event of the day on Friday saw the distance medley relay team of Abigail Hardersen, Madyson Wolfe, Jillian Brennan, and Ava Allen post a season-best time of 13:07.86 for ninth place.
- Beginning the Saturday action for Black Hills State, the lone Yellow Jacket competing in the high jump saw a 13th place finish by Gracie Wilts as she cleared 1.58m (5' 2.25").
- The conference championships came to a close on Saturday afternoon with a pair of Second Team All-RMAC honors for Cassidy Goddard and Sullivan as they placed fifth and sixth respectively in the weight throw. Goddard recorded a new career-best mark of 16.63m (54' 6.75") to move into seventh place in the school record books, while Sullivan added a career-best toss of her own with a mark of 16.24m (53' 3.5").

Black Hills State will await the announcement of the 2026 NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championship qualifiers by the NCAA on Tuesday, March 3. Currently four Yellow Jackets hold NCAA Provisional marks/times, including
Evan Smith (800m run),

Chase Maher (pole vault) and
Gretchen Adamski (pole vault). Those who qualify will compete at the national championships on March 13
th and 14
th at the Virginia Beach Sports Center in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
