AZUSA, Calif. – The Black Hills State University men's and women's track & field team concluded a 3-day meet at the fastest and largest collegiate meet in the United States, the Bryan Clay Invitational, on Saturday as the Yellow Jackets finished the weekend with seven all-time top-10 times in program history. Securing the seventh and final top-10 of the weekend was
Evan Smith, who clocked the fifth-fastest 1,500m run time in school history. In total the Green & Gold added five career-best times in the final day of action.
HOW IT HAPPENED – MEN'S TRACK & FIELD
- The final day in Southern California began with a pair of career-best times in the 1,500m Run Open C event by both Jaxon Straus and Dominic Eberle as they clocked times of 3:55.50 for 29th and 4:02.02 for 117th respectively. Straus' top-30 finish in the field of 148 athletes included him besting 51 NCAA Division I athletes, while Eberle finished ahead of 15 DI runners.
- In the first men's race of the Saturday evening session, Landrum Wiley ran a career-best time of 3:55.92 for 123rd place in the 1,500m Run Open B competition. In the field of 186 athletes, he bested 33 NCAA Division I runners.
- Evan Smith took to the track at 10:36 p.m. local time (11:36 p.m. MT) in the final race of the weekend at the Cougar Athletic Stadium, running to a career-best time of 3:50.66 for 100th place in the 1,500m Run Open A competition. His time ranks fifth all-time in program history in the event, as he defeated 39 NCAA Division I runners in the field of 166 athletes.
HOW IT HAPPENED – WOMEN'S TRACK & FIELD
- The pair of Emma Hofmeister and Abby Hardersen were the lone Yellow Jacket women's distance runners in action on Saturday, clocking times of 4:45.35 and 4:55.66 respectively for 46th and 106th place. Hofmeister's career-best time allowed her to finish ahead of 38 NCAA Division I runners in the field of 136 athletes, while Hardersen beat 11 DI runners in the race.
