Anthony Kerr enters his 20th season coaching college football, and his fifth season with the Yellow Jackets as the Defensive Coordinator in 2019.

Takeaways are a priority for the defense at BHSU. Over the past three years (2016-18), the Yellow Jackets have averaged 2.6 takeaways per game. The team has ranked first or second in the conference over each of the last three years in total takeaways.

Over the 2016-17 seasons, Kerr led a defense that tallied 38 interceptions, which is good for 3.5 interceptions per game.

In 2017, the Yellow Jacket defense held opponents to a 33% success rate on third down conversions, which was second in the RMAC. The 23 forced turnovers was also good for second in the conference.

In 2016, Kerr led a defense that was second in the nation in interceptions. He coached the RMAC Defensive Player of the Year, Drew Hebel, who led the nation in interceptions.

Kerr brings 15 years of expertise to the Yellow Jackets.  He is very acclimated to the RMAC having played for Colorado Mesa.

Kerr spent four seasons at NCAA Division II Southwest Minnesota State University as the linebackers’ coach and special teams’ coordinator. He twice coached the team's Defensive Player of the Year while coaching his position players to four All-NSIC honors.

Kerr spent three seasons as the special teams’ coordinator, linebackers coach and conditioning coordinator at NCAA Division III Millikan University.

Kerr played for and began his coaching career at Colorado Mesa University. He was a team captain in 1997 and earned his bachelor's degree in mass communications from CMU and a master's degree in sport management from Nova Southeastern (Fla.).

Kerr was on staff at Colorado Mesa for six seasons. He spent three seasons as the outside linebackers’ coach before taking over as linebackers’ coach and special teams coordinator in 2003.

Kerr brings with him a pair of RMAC Championships and postseason experience due to his tenure at CMU.  The team finished third in the nation in 2005.

Anthony is married to Ami and has three children: Avery (7), Adalinn, (6) and Austinn (4).
