Shawn Schnabel enters his seventh season with the Yellow Jackets, coaching the offensive line.
Schnabel has coached four offensive linemen to RMAC All-Conference recognition during his time at BHSU. In 2013, Ryland Smith was named to the All-RMAC team. Andrew Blaylock was named Honorable Mention All-RMAC in 2015 and Second Team All-RMAC in 2016. Additionally, Darian Warford and Aaron Montoya both earned All-RMAC Honorable Mention following the 2017 season.
Schnabel's offensive linemen have paved the way for several school rushing records. Running back Phydell Paris broke single game, single season, and career rushing records behind the blocking of Schnabel's offensive lines.
Prior to Black Hills State, Schnabel spent three years at T.F. Riggs High School in Pierre, South Dakota, where he was a freshman football coach, weight room supervisor, and summer strength and conditioning coach.
While at T.F. Riggs, Schnabel also taught foundations of biology, general science, and physical science.
During his playing days, Schnabel was an offensive lineman and three-time national champion at the University of Sioux Falls, winning the 2006, 2008, and 2009 NAIA crowns. The Cougars went 56-1 during his four years, with the lone loss coming in the 2007 national championship game. Schnabel graduated in 2010 with a Bachelor’s of Science in biology and secondary education and was twice named an Academic All-American.
Schnabel earned his Master's degree in curriculum and instruction from Black Hills State in May 2016. He and his wife, Whitney, love the Black Hills area and enjoy being involved in the Spearfish community.
