Seth Mischke is in his fourth year as head coach of the Black Hills State University men’s and women’s track and field teams.
In his short amount of time at Black Hills, Mischke helped guide the Yellow Jackets into NCAA Division II and has oversaw 46 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference All-Conference honorees. He has coached two-time RMAC Champion Madison McLaughlin, the winner of the 2013 weight throw at the indoor championship and the 2014 outdoor shot put.
Mischke has also helped guide the first two NCAA Division II national qualifiers in McLaughlin (2014 outdoor shot put) and Mitch Kraft (2014 3,000-meter steeplechase).
Prior to Black Hills State, Mischke was the head track and field along with head cross country coach for 12 years at St. Cloud State University in St. Cloud, Minnesota. During his tenure at SCSU, the Husky athletic program produced 44 All-American Awards for 17 individuals and one national champion. He also coached four national runner-ups and three third place finishers.
Mischke’s teams sent 27 student-athletes to the NCAA Division II National Meet as qualifiers and coached 21 conference champions. Under his tutelage, the Huskies combined to break 43 school records between the men’s and women’s track and field programs.
During his time at St. Cloud State, Mischke was twice named the conference coach of the year. He earned North Central Conference Coach of the Year in 2005 for men’s indoor track and field and earned the Men’s Outdoor Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Coach of the Year in 2011.
A graduate of the University of Minnesota in 1997, Mischke was a two-time team captain. He claimed a runner-up finish in the Big Ten Conference Indoor Track and Field Meet in the pole vault. He followed that up at the 1997 Big Ten Outdoor Meet with a third place finish in the decathlon.
His personal best during his collegiate career in the pole vault was 17’3” and a total of 7,026 points in the decathlon.
Mischke, and his wife Colleen, have three children: Brooklyn, Tanner and Micah.
