SPEARFISH, S.D. – Black Hills State University head softball coach Lane Leedy has announced the addition of Caitlin Blanchard as the graduate assistant coach for the Yellow Jackets.
Blanchard, a native of Petersburg, Mich., spent her collegiate career at the University of Michigan where she played in 205 career games, winning four Big Ten Championships and competing in the Women's College World Series. She spent two seasons at catcher and two seasons at first base. She was named First Team All-Big Ten in 2013 as a first basemen and to the Third Team All-Big Ten in 2011 as a catcher.
"I am thrilled to welcome Caitlin into the Yellow Jacket softball family," Leedy said. "Obviously someone with her caliber stands out having played for a Power Five conference school."
Blanchard spent the last two years as a private softball instructor for Total Sports Complex, as well as the head softball coach for Summerfield High School for the 2015 season.
"I think she will be, not only a great mentor for the girls, but also a fantastic addition to the Athletic Department," Leedy added.
Blanchard was named to the Academic All-Big Ten and received the U of M Athletic Academic Achievement Award during her academic career while majoring in History. She will be pursuing her Masters of Science in Sustainability at Black Hills State.
