Matt Brandhagen

Matt Brandhagen has been assisting the Black Hills State University softball team since 2019.

The Sioux Falls, S.D. native has spent two seasons as the assistant coach at Mount Marty College where he worked mostly with hitting and pitching. From 2000-2007, Brandhagen was Head Coach at Vermillion High School, and then Head Coach at Rapid City Central from 2007-2012 where they won the school's first High School Championship in 2010.

He was also the manager of the Post 22 softball program from 2016-2020, which was the first American Legion Softball program in the country. He has also coached travel softball for the last 25 years with one national championship and many invitational championship's, and has sent 48 high school and travel ball players on to the collegiate level throughout his coaching career.

In 2008, Brandhagen was also the coach of the Black Hills Gold team which played the USA Olympic Team in the Bound for Beijing Tour. In 2010, he was awarded the Rapid City Sports Council Coach of the Year and Team of the Year awards.

During his playing time he played Boy's and Men's fast pitch and competed with some of the top teams in the country as a pitcher. He has worked with hundreds of pitchers and developed them into some of the top pitchers in South Dakota.
