Alvin Nyangau came to Spearfish to join head coach Rachel Erickson as her assistant coach in June 2024, both entering their first season with Black Hills State University in 2024-25.Â
Prior to coming to BHSU, Nyangau spent a season at Western Colorado University under head coach Adam Jacobson. While at WCU, he oversaw the Mountaineer offense and coached Second Team All-RMAC performer Rachel Cockman and Honorable Mention Ivey Schmidt.

Prior to his time at WCU, he spent a season as an assistant coach at Northern State (S.D.) under head coach Paul Krueger. The 2022-23 season saw the Wolves go 18-12 (12-10 NSIC) with a trip to the NSIC semifinals, after a Quarterfinals win over Upper Iowa. The team also led the NCAA Division II ranks in least turnovers committed per game.

He has also spent time with the North Dakota State men's basketball program and served as the graduate assistant and assistant coach at Upper Iowa University.

Nyangau holds a Bachelor's of Science degree in Sport Management from North Dakota State, where he served as a student-manager for the Bison women's basketball program. He also has a Master's degree in Sport Administration from Upper Iowa.
