Mark Nore

Mark Nore was named the Director of Athletics at Black Hills State University on April 4, 2024 after serving as Interim AD since December of 2023. Prior to assuming the athletic director role, Nore was the head coach of the BHSU women's basketball program for 22 seasons. 

His first major hire as AD came at the end of April when he named former student-athlete and graduate assistant of his, Rachel Erickson as the next BHSU women's basketball head coach. 

As the head coach of BHSU women's basketball, Nore is the program's all-time wins leader with a record of 390-239 (.620 win percentage). In his tenure, he saw the program's transition from the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) to the ranks of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division II, and led the Yellow Jackets to seven-straight Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) tournament appearances (2018-24). 

During the Division II era, Nore finished as high as third in the RMAC (2017-18, 2022-23) and took home one RMAC conference tournament title (2020-21). In his four NCAA Tournaments, the 2022-23 season saw the Yellow Jackets pick up their first NCAA tournament victory with a 61-57 overtime victory over Regis. 

In the NAIA era, his teams earned three Dakota Athletic Conference (DAC) championships (NAIA), once DAC conference tournament title, and four consecutive trips to the NAIA tournament. 

In all, Nore has coached 29 all-conference players, one conference MVP, one CoSIDA/CSC Academic All-District, three most valuable seniors, three defensive players of the year and a freshman of the year in his career.

Nore has led his teams to three Dakota Athletic Conference Championships (NAIA), one conference tournament championship (DAC), and had four consecutive trips to the NAIA National Tournament in the final four years of NAIA eligibility. 

A graduate of Black Hills State University, Nore played under BHSU Hall of Famer Mike Olson from 1993 to 1997. During his playing career, Nore was part of 77 wins and two trips to the NAIA national tournament.

Coach Nore’s career began as a high school coach in Belle Fourche, South Dakota. He moved into an assistant coaching role for the women’s basketball team for two years in 1998 and 1999. He then moved onto Southwest Minnesota State University where he served as a Graduate Assistant from 2000 to 2002. At SMSU, the Mustangs compiled a 49-13 record and an NSIC Conference Championship. 

Nore received his bachelors degree in physical education and special education from Black Hills State in 1999 and earned his Master’s of Science with and emphasis in physical education at Southwest Minnesota State University (SMSU) in 2002.

A native of Belle Fourche, S.D., Nore and his wife Melissa, a former standout at BHSU, have two children, Lily and Berklee.
