Coach Schorzmann is entering his first year at Black Hills State
Schorzmann is heading to BHSU after spending last season at Wayne State College in Nebraska. WSC went 11-16 in his only season there and before that Schorzmann was coaching on the big stages at the high school level in South Dakota.
Schorzmann made the jump to college after spending six seasons as the head coach at Tea Area High School in Tea, SD. He had a 89-49 record for the Titans and qualified them for one state tournament in 2024 where they fell in a close game to Vermillion. During his time as the Titans head coach, he coached three 1000-point scorers, 8 All-Conference players, one Dak XII Conference Player of the Year, and one South Dakota Gatorade Player of the Year. Both of those are Katie Vasecka, who now plays for South Dakota State and is one of four players Schorzmann sent to play college basketball in his time at Tea Area.
Schorzmann started his high school journey as a boys’ basketball assistant coach at Harrisburg High School which he was at from 2014-2018. In his final year there, he helped the Tigers finish runners-up in the SDHSAA State Tournament.
He spent his GA at Dakota Wesleyan where he learned under the fairly new head coach Jason Christensen for two seasons. During that time, DWU had a record of 38-24. He also served as a student assistant at South Dakota State during the 07-08 season.
Schorzmann got his bachelor’s degree in history at South Dakota State then went on to finish his master’s in educational policy and administration at DWU. He is joined in Spearfish by his wife, Ashley and his two kids, Della and Theo.
