Derick VandeBossche

Derick VandeBossche joined the Black Hills State University Athletic Department in February of 2025 as the Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance. He arrives in Spearfish following a pair of stints working at Duke Boston State Farm in Belle Fourche as an agent team member and Monument Health Hospital in Rapid City as an exercise physiologist in cardiac rehabilitation.

Prior to making the move to the Black Hills, VandeBossche spent four years as a football coach at Dickinson State University. After two years as a defensive graduate assistant (2020-22), he moved into a full-time coaching roll as the special teams coordinator and defensive backs coach (2022-24). During his four years on the sidelines he coached five Blue Hawks to all-conference honors and helped the team win four North Star Athletic Association titles.

Before making the move to coaching he was an All-American defensive back for DSU from 2016-19. During his collegiate career he accumulated 205 total tackles, eight tackles-for-loss, six interceptions, and one defensive touchdown. While in college the Lusk, Wyoming, native received athletics administration experience while pursuing an internship with the Wyoming High School Athletic Association, assisting with the facilitation of the state wrestling and basketball tournaments.

He now resides in Belle Fourche with his wife Gabbi.
