In Review...
The football team fell to Central Oklahoma by a score of 17-30 on the road in Edmond, Oklahoma this past Thursday. The Yellow Jackets fell behind early in the first as the Bronchos struck first with a 34 yard touchdown run. Central Oklahoma then followed up the touchdown with two field goals and another touchdown run in the first half. The Yellow Jackets were able to get on the scoreboard with a 27 yard field goal with :33 left on the clock in the second quarter. Black Hills State then made a significant push out of the halftime break as they stormed back into the game with a rushing touchdown a piece from both Wes Kragt and Bryar DeSanti bringing the game a 17-20. The Bronchos were able to pull away in the fourth quarter and stretched the lead to 17-30 through a rushing touchdown and a field goal to end the game.
First Quarter Woes...
Black Hills State leads their opponent in scoring in both the second and fourth quarters this season. The Yellow Jackets have out scored their opponents 57-34 in the second quarter and 56-41 in the fourth. Black Hills State has put up a total of 7 points in the first quarter this season as compared to thier oppenent's 92 in the first and third quarters. Black Hills State is 1-0 when scoring in the first quarter this season.
Lee Tackles...
Ryan Lee has 53.5 tackles this season to lead the team. He had a career high 11 unassisted tackles against North Dakota. Last season, Lee was third on the team in tackles behind all-conference performers Forest Sainsbury and Richard Fairhead. Lee had a total of 55 tackles in 2010.
Pentalty Poise...
The Yellow Jackets have committed 20 less penalties than thier opponents this season. Black Hills State has only given up 375 yards on penalties as compared to 590 yards given up by thier opposition. This equates to an average of 26 extra yards per game in favor of the Yellow Jackets.
Home Alone...
This upcoming game against the Minot State Beavers will be the first home game for the Yellow Jacket football team since the tenth of September for swarm day. With volleyball, cross country, and basketball on the road, the football team will be the only home contest of the weekend. This home game will be the first of two home games and mark the start of the team's longest stretch at home.
All Hands On Deck...
The Yellow Jacket receiving core in Daniel Hancock, Ryan Fagerstrom, and Reed Reuman have all eclipsed 200 yards receiving this season. Fagerstrom has tallied four touchdowns through the air with Hancock and Reuman each adding two TDs of their own.
Tough Transition...
Black Hills State will play five games this season against teams that are making the transition to NCAA Division II. The Yellow Jackets face S.D. School of Mines twice, Minot State twice, and Sioux Falls once. The four teams have a combined record of 4-18.
Picked Off...
Black Hills State has intercepted seven passes this season through eight games. Last year, the Yellow Jackets had a total of nine team interceptions.
Catching Kragt...
Quarterback Wes Kragt leads the Yellow Jackets in offensive yards with 1,154 total yards. Kragt has 159 yards rushing to go along with 995 passing yards.
Third Down Conversions...
The Yellow Jackets have converted on 24% of their third down attempts this season compared to a 42% conversion rate by their opponents. Black Hills State is 29-of-120 on third down.
Familiar Foes...
