Golf: Yellow Jackets Ready for RMAC Championship

SPEARFISH, S.D. – The Black Hills State University golf team plays the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Championship Sunday and Monday in Avondale, Arizona, with the top-four teams continuing play on Tuesday in the medal round.

This is the first year of the new format and takes place at the Coldwater Golf Club that has a scheduled forecast of 85 degrees and sunshine on Sunday and 89 degrees and sun on Monday.

The Yellow Jackets are coming off a pair of spring tournaments that saw them finish second at the South Dakota Mines Invitational and ninth at the Maverick Spring Invitational.

Paige Erickson has been the Green and Gold's low-scorer throughout the season, holding an 86.9 average with Kiley Phares faring second with an 89. Most recently Erickson placed 29th at the Maverick Spring Invitational hosted by Colorado Mesa University with a two-day 175. She tallied a five-stroke improvement from the round one to round two to an 85.

MSU Denver is the defending RMAC Champion, defeating CSU – Pueblo by 19 strokes. Colorado Mesa enters the tournament as the favorite, owning a ranking of No. 43 by Golfstat.

First round action begins at 11:30 a.m. on Sunday.
